For ease of reference..

..I'm gonna go ahead and call it a 'State of the Union' address.

I was eagerly awaiting President Obama's speech last night, and I'll tell you why.
I love oratory!
The ebb and flow of well crafted ideas, delivered with impeccable timing and purpose makes me feel absolutely euphoric.
It's like fine dining for the soul, and Obama never fails to leave me feeling fat,and happy.

Fully 80% of America is now feeling more inspired, hopeful, and confident that we will get through these trying times, and come out all bright and sparkly on the other side.

Eighty..Freakin'..Percent..

This kind of public approval after a State of the Union address is nothing less than unprecedented in my lifetime.

PLUS!..As an added bonus!..Just when I was all set to lean back, unbutton the top button of my britches, and bask in the glory of my rhetorical gluttony,..Bobby Jindal rolled out the dessert cart!

His so-called 'rebuttal' of Obama's speech was like freshly baked schadenfreude with French Vanilla ice cream on top for a guy like me that revels in the out-loud-and-in-public humiliation of those that desperately cling to the antiquated dogma of the far-far away-right.

Yeah..It was that sweet!

He was physically awkward, verbally comical, and substantively clueless about what was actually contained in Obama's masterfully delivered speech.

That pathetic whimpering you hear wafting over the horizon,is the sound of Congressional Republicans bemoaning ever having selected Bobby to speak on their behalf...

It's Wednesday,..and life is a four course meal in Sling's Domain.

You know I think it is a ploy...the republicans keep pulling these really idiotic people out..All they have to do is find one half smart guy now..and he will look like a genius..see they are playing their low cards right now.

The Republicans are like a bad boyfriend you broke up with that keeps chasing after you to let you know what a mistake you made in dumping them.... "You'll be back".... don't hold your breath.

Jindel is a rising young Republican star I'm told. The Washington Post called him the party's anti-Palin guy. He is a Rhodes scholar and supposed to be very bright. Maybe there is another Bobby Jindel than the one you saw last night.
Count me with the 80% who think Obama is doing all the right things, but the man does have a huge mess to fix.

if those republicans had any brains huckabee and chuck norris would have handled the rebuttal.

Ooh, I love dinner posts!

(Don't you know Fox will say Obama sucked and the republicans triumphed?)

Humm let me disagree a wee bit.I thought Obama and Jindal both were intelligent and neither talked in sound bites, but as people engaged in intelligent discord. It is so fresh to have people ON BOTH SIDES speak with out yelling, name calling and with respect for each other and the general public. I do not agree with Jindal, but at least he can speak a complete sentence with both nouns and verbs,at least he thinks.

Sage- You make an excellent point, and one I hadn't considered..
There is four years, after all,for them to trot out every manner of lowball bets to sucker us into complacence..
Still,I'm feelin' pretty smug sitting here holding a straight flush.

Thinker- ..Have we dated??

Mom- No doubt there is another Bobby Jindal.
He was perfectly articulate on 'Meet the Press',so I'm assuming his handlers really dropped the ball on this one.
Like my good friend Billy Pilgrim always says,..'So it goes'..

Billy P.- Speak of the devil, and up pops a reasonable facsimile!..
Chuck would have kicked some serious Democratic ass!
..So the Republicans got that going for them too,..which is nice.

Citizen- Oh,I saw some reactionary talking head try to spin Jindal's disaterous performance in a positive light..It was,.amusing.

austexgrl- BINGO!!..You are forever authorized to disagree with anything I might post that you take exception to!
It's all about the civilized freedom of expression in my comments section dear friend!
In that spirit,I promise to come down off my high horse, and put some carefully considered, common sense attitude into daily practice.
..I'm still gonna be an insufferably cranky bastard in my writing,..but know that I really do hear what you're saying. :)

Miss HP- ..Did you notice the Angelic picture of Obama and his presidential 'Halo' in the top left corner of my post?..I'm such an Obama whore. ;)

I'm tryin' real hard not to do little happy dances all over the collective grave of what has become the Republican party. Oh and golly moses, when certain of them start saying things like "we have to get back to the party of Reagan...the party of Goldwater..." I'm all "Hello? Have you people learned nothing?"

It's going to be a mighty tough time, but I actually do have hope the President has the guts to do what it takes and not pander to politics. That said, Bobby Jindal is a freak- ever hear the exorcisim story? Hoo boy! And he's the bright new star in their stable? You really have to wonder...

Yellerdawg- Darn..I missed that show.
The comedy pretty much writes itself with those Republicans.

Rainey- It borders on the surreal doesn't it!
They keep going about business as usual as though they have an ounce of credibilty.
Talk about 'denial'!

Doralong- So far,Obama seems to be going after his agenda with a vengeance.
He clearly wants to work with Republicans, but with them or without them,he has his mind set on getting things done.
And no,..I haven't heard the exsorcism
story,but it sounds fun! :)

So, I guess you've already seen the clip that Chris Matthews exhaling some palpable ... what to call it ... disdain. That. - as Jindal enters the room? I love a mic that's still on.

Anyhoo - what a wonderful speech and, really, what a wonderful write up you done give it. Sometimes, I wonder why anyone else bothers. And I mean that.

I also super duper appreciate that austxgrl has plenty of room to disagree here and that you encourage it. LOVE that. And in that spirit, I'll disagree back. While Bobby spoke well enough, well enough falls short of being any kind of recommendation. You could NOT have called it better or SAID it better for that matter; he was substantively clueless and, after all, we're in an age that DEMANDS substance. Can't deliver? Then you get the schadenreude treatment.

Booda baby.. I LOVE You! I do not agree or even like Jindal..I think I was so sick of that pablum, "I can see Russia from My house"bit..Jindal IS educated. I do believe he cares for his state,,He did NOT talk down to Obama..He did not do any "Snide" remarks..those were the things I did appreciate about him..that is all.. I LOVE THIS BLOG, my respect for Sling is off the charts!

I'm not sure they're bemoaning picking him, actually. Their base seems to think he's the best thing since sliced bread, er, make that Sarah Palin, and by all appearances, they're catering to their base. Still.

I was expecting more of Jindal, actually. I was kind of flabbergasted, watching him, thinking, what?! THIS is their great hope? I'd assumed bad speeches were over when Palin went back to Alaska, but man, Jindal was painful to watch.
