Friday Jukebox

I don't know about you,but when I think Reggae music I think Bob Marley!
..It's only natural.
So,I was a little surprised to discover that the first Reggae artist to break into the top ten in the United States, and the first to hit #1 in the UK, was a cat named Desmond Dekker.

I liked this song when it first came out in 1968,even though I had no clue what the hell the guy was talkn' about.
I still haven't a clue,..something to do with bustin' yer ass just to put food on the table I suspect,..but I like Desmond's updated version even better!

Very cool song...is there a guy in the video with a clock on his head? Am I hallucinating?

I still believe Reggae music = Marley! And I couldn't agree more with your previous post about whippersnappers ... it's certainly bleak and scary out here for all of us not sitting in ivory towers or living in complete denial!

Ooooh. Always a good tune, it sounded extra special today. Although all that sexy action at the end was - for me - all wrong. Really? Can you sex up a song called Israelites?

(I guess you can. And I'm going to think it's wrong.)

austexgrl- That's not out of the realm of possibilty..I'm half Texan you know.

Sage- There is a guy with a clock on his head,..but you still may be hallucinating.
I just don't know.

Eternally Curious- I don't even know how to react to these people that just don't get it!..We bail them out with great buttloads of cash, and they're all like,'Cool!..Now I can get my 16 year old daughter that diamond encrusted pony she's had her eye on!'..

Booda Babe- Two words..'Sodom',and 'Gomhorraa'.

Doralong- Thank you dear! :)

billy P.- Sadly,it's too late for Desmond as well.
He passed in 2006.

What a happy song. It is totally unnecessary to know he's talking about to want to tap your foot and just feel happy.

Mom- I agree!..Mostly,I prefer music without lyrics anyway.

Yellerdawg- Bob & Ziggy,..no doubt.
I was impressed that Desmond was part of pioneering Reggae though.

I always liked this song, too.

I saw Bob Marley's son playing last year at a free concert. Good stuff.

This really brought back my long lost adolescence. It's still a great song and I agree, this is a great version.
