Birds of a feather..

Yesterday at work,I plugged in my bull nose router,(and yes,it's every bit as macho as it sounds),and the entire South side of O-Town lost power.

As much as I would like to take credit for the outage,I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence. In any case,we all got sent home at 11:30 am.

This morning Mr.K said we would get paid for the whole day, because it wasn't our fault the power went out.

Little does he suspect.

We have a pair of Sparrows nesting in the apex of the roof, outside, near our break area.I've been giving them crackers, and bits of bread from my lunch, and now Papa Sparrow,(I say "Papa",because Momma is incessantly squawking at him),comes down whenever I'm on break to collect his daily rations.

He lands a few feet from me,cocks his head, and begins to chirp.

I've translated this behavior to mean,"Dude!...Kick me down some crackers so she'll get off my case...dammit!".Mrs. K said that if I wanted to build a bird feeder for them, she would buy the birdseed.

I think I prefer the present arrangement..

Recently,a group of Vultures,(Flock?..Covey?..Secret fraternal organization??..),has been surveying the area some few miles from the shop.Today they moved in over the break area, directly above me.

They really are a handsome bird.Brilliant white on black, with a wingspan I would guesstimate at around 5 feet.

They hovered above me for some time, riding the updrafts, and slowly descending to the point at which I could make out their featherless heads.

I watched this display, becoming lost in the reverie, when I was suddenly struck with the thought that perhaps this doesn't bode so well for me...I just don't know.

A year ago this month,my blog was hijacked by some opportunistic porn peddler.I lost my addy, and everything I had posted up to that time.

This is the occasion of my 200th post since then!

Have a great week kids!...Peace out.

Okay, lots to comment on here...

Wow, what a "power"ful guy you are! :) You have an awesome boss!

How CUTE about the sparrows! And I think your interpretation of Mr. Sparrow's chirps is right on target.

I miss the vultures. I mean, growing up, there were always turkey vultures circling overhead (hmmm, maybe that was a sign)...we don't really have them around here. Maybe because we have Bald Eagles by the dozens. Anyway, I used to love watching them float around, wondering what carrion they were checking out - or what critter they were waiting on to die. Grisly, I know.

What an interesting anniversary! And congrats on post 200!!! Keep 'em coming, Sling!

Hugs!!!

Holy moly, how'd your blog get hijacked by the porn guy? I'm glad you got going again. Happy 200th! And may you post many more.

Interesting about the birds. Maybe they were returning the favor of all the free food with some time off for you. Birds are pretty smart. I should know -- I saw "The Birds." :)

It's actually a venue of vultures. Also: a murder of crows. My favorites: a harem of seals, an exultation of skylarks.

I knew it, I knew it, you are a softie....how sweet to feed the bird...why not the birdhouse and seed? Thinkin you might have tovdo bird poop duty or would it spoil the moment that is all yours?

Wow, a Power ranger in O town....

Cowbell is so smart!

PS: How the heck did your blog get hijacked? I didn't even know that could happen. Yikes!

(Rosemary: it's fascinating -- i don't know why, but I've always found it so interesting, the names of the groups. Some are really fitting, like a cackle of hyenas.)

gina-I do have an awesome boss don't I!
Funny,I miss the Bald Eagles in Colorado. There was a pair that returned every year, very near my house.I'm pretty sure that these are Turkey Vultures here in O-Town.

serena joy-I never have figured out how my blog got jacked.
I'm a little ambivalent about the birds.I mean,I don't mind feeding the Sparrows,but I don't wanna "feed" the Vultures.

more cowbell-I thought about looking up the term for Vultures, but I was certain my blog buds would enlighten me.
Thanks doll!

rosemary-If I build a bird feeder, then Mama bird will just rag on him how easy he has it.
This way,he gets out of the house for a while, and goes home a hero!..
MC is indeed,a genius. :)

Cowbelle-I tried logging into my blog one day,and it wouldn't let me.
I figured Blogger was being a butt.
Then I got a few e-mails like,"Dude!..What happened to your blog?"..I never did figure out how they snagged my URL,but the site went down shortly thereafter, and I'm still here. ;)

Wait...is it paper or plastic that marks the one year anniversary of a pornographic hijacking? I can never remember the etiquette on these darn things!
Also, I love turkey vultures. They look so majestic when they fly...until you realize that they are merely eying a potential feast of squished innards. Blech!

hey is that porn site still around?
Oh dont worry about the birds of prey, at least they are not woman!

Up here, 35 miles south of ro and Gina, we have these birds called barn swallows and they are amazing little creatures to watch from the upstairs windows...swooping little acrobats...the girls sit and watch them as well...yes we also have wild turkeys and they are uglier than poop...which the girls also love to eat like Riley just out of rehab...

glad you made it to 200 porn free...eehaaa

mouse-The porn site went bust(no pun intended)about 2 months after the hijacking...I still had my old hit counter for that URL,and they sent me an e-mail saying they were dropping the account due to lack of traffic!..No kidding.

CS-Oh,I love those birds!
They really are fascinating to watch.:)

I saw a pigeon fight today and my camera ran out of batteries. dang. the one pigeon had the other's neck in his beak and was dragging him all over the place and this other one was following them everywhere instigating and refereeing...OK kind of off topic but you know...birds.

I hate to show up so late and find all the really good comments already made.

On the other hand, I love to show up so late, etc etc, because then I can pretend I WOULD have said something verrry very witty if, say, JP hadn't already said it.

You gotta work these things, don't you?

LOve the bird story and picture. I have been putting containers around our trees full of parrot food etc...as its coming up to spring here and the birds are really feeding up. Today i have seen Galahs, Sulpher Crested Cockatoos, Magpies, Willy Wag tails, Ibis, Herons and a pair of Mountain Lorikeets...sometimes this place is a bird paradise...
