Yada Yada Wednesday..

Well we've gone from zero to sixty at work!..
Last week we brought back one of our installers, and Mr K. says we should be reinstating our spray guy, probably in the next couple of weeks.
Which is nice, because I've had to take on all the lacquering of the cabinets since the big layoff.

Ideally,I'd be able to show you these after they've been installed, along with their counter tops, and properly trimmed out.
Since I'm not going on the install,I had to take some quick pix before they were loaded on the trailer.
They're constructed of solid Maple, with Birch interiors.Except where there are glass doors,in which case 1/4" Maple veneers are used for the backs.

This is the Kitchen sink cabinet.I like the Rope accoutrements. This cabinet will house a double oven. The eyebrow arched top doors are reflecting the fluorescent shop lights.Every upper cabinet in the kitchen comes with glass doors at the top.
SWEET!
The drawer at the bottom is mounted on full-extension runners.

This is one half of the master bath vanity.Another cab with a bank of drawers connects at a 90 degree angle on the right side. The slab door on the left side opens to reveal...
..a pull-out rack for toiletries,at the request of the customer.
Again,in the master bath, this linen closet barely fits in the view finder at 103" tall!

A convenient laundry hamper occupies the lower third.

This is a nice touch.
All the cabinets will be trimmed out at the ceiling with roped crown moulding.
I really wish I could show you photos of the final job,..but ,alas..
Now,If you'd like to see some damm fine Maple cabinets in situ, check out the recent remodel my good friend Citizen of the world just had done!
She found a fantastic local cabinet maker, who clearly worked hard to make her vision,a reality...Know what I'm sayin' JP?

But enough about me.
Let's talk about Mom O' Lizzard King!
She's staying with us for a bit,and has brought with her a tantalizing taste of Spring.
The woman is an Orchid growing prodigy!
I present the following examples, sans captions.

I hope this post has found you and yours in the best of spirits,as for me,
Life is good in Sling's Domain!

truly lovely work on those cabinets. i used to do a lot of installs myself when i was working as an interior designer so i can totally appreciate what went into those.

i also think the orchids are quite lovely too, sling.

too bad you're straight? *sigh*

danny- Well doesn't beauty, whether it's a functional and decorative piece of furniture,or a serendipitous act of nature, lie in the eye of the beholder?..
And yes,I'm a flaming heterosexual.
Peace be on your house my friend. ;)

what a great post - I scrolled through quickly - I always was better with pictures than words - saw the cabinets and then the orchids and thought WTF is the connection. Two types of beauty - man-made (damn you guys do beautitful stuff)and nature-made. Thanks my friend.

Wow! What kind of bribe would it take to get you to make a little trip out east? I'm dreading doing the kitchen , but we could do a fabulous job together! I've thus far not found anyone that's actually getting my vision.

That was sweet of the Mom 'o LK to bring along some springtime with her. Mom cooking, orchids and little Newt gets some Grandma love. Nice to see all is right(ish) in your world.

PS- Get the boss to take some pics of the installed product- hint, hint..

Oh, nice cabinets! You know they are my style. And I like just saying the word "accoutrements."

Love them...the orchids are nice too. You know I can't say the word "accoutrements." What the hell I have tried three times..and my brother is laughing at me. When I grow up or get rich I am going to have all my cabinets re-done...the previous owner had the cheap ones put in.

I really love the work you do on the custom cabinets. I've been wondering though if the Sling Domain Kitchen has such...er, accoutrements. I'm imagining something out of a Martha Stewart showcase. Or a bare sink and an old table.

I would love to have you come and install such beautiful cabinets in my house1 They are gorgeous. The orchids would look nice scattered along the cabinets. I do love beautiful things.

oh my friend..they are beautiful...what are they going to stain them with?...a maple stain or something else..
the orchids are lovely...it's psycho weather in texas..went from 82 to 28...in 8 hours...it's sunny and windy out but will be in the 60's up to 50's low...so..your right..life is good.

I just bought ummm, the 5th set of knobs and pulls to try and make my cabinets look better....sadly didn't help. The orchids are really beautiful. glad work is picking up.

willym- I'm pleased that you enjoyed it.
I think the fact that we humans even have a concept of beauty, proves that there is a divine hand.

doralong- The bribe would be approximately $12,732.46...in small, unmarked bills...:P

Citizen- I love saying 'accoutrements' so much, that I don't even care if I'm using it correctly.
I also like saying 'Filligree'.

Sage- Ah-Coo-Tra-Mints!..It's a great tongue exercise! :O

billy P.- Could I interest you in a solid hickory shoebox?..Functional,and decorative!

jan- In truth, our cabinets are a disaster...we rent.
But!,I did add one of ours over the stove that almost matches the color of the originals.

mom- The world is chock-full-O-beautiful things.
I like to consider them from time to time. You know,..when I'm not ranting.

Yellerdawg- These cabinets went out with just clear laquer. But!, we did a job recently where the customer wanted Maple cabinets,so that he could paint them!..broke my heart.

Cowbelle- antique kitchen?...Oh,..Knotty Hickory!..I love that stuff.

Rainey- Every day,Mr.K asks me,"So,is lorraine rich yet?'..Every.Single.Day.
What's the hold up?

Hat- I was in a silly mood.
Cheap brown liquor may have been involved.

Rosie- I like those Dutch-Blue porcelain knobs and pulls...they make wonderful accoutrements..HA!

Do you do all the - A's no HELP AT ALL. Routing? The cutting the stuff into the panels? Lathing? Is that how you got the rope trim? Rope trim is very popular in the flaming hetero community.

Don't you sometimes just feel lucky you got such a cool job?

The orchids. Gawd. They almost got an onomonop-et cetera name, didn't they? Okay. To MY ear. Orchid sounds like orchid looks.

booda baby- Good question!
It is called routing.
I can,and have done every step in the process. Our shop is actually 2 separate buildings, within 50 feet of each other.
The doors, drawers, and face frames are built by Nick in his shop, and he sends all the parts and pieces to Dan and I.
Dan builds the cabinet 'box',and attaches the face frame,(The facade,if you will).
It comes to me in the rough.
I do the finish shaping, sanding, staining, and laquering.
I also make the shelves, and backs of the cabinet.
Once the cabinet itself is finished,Dan and I mount the drawer fronts on the drawer boxes, install all the hardware for the doors and drawers, and install them on the cabinet, adjusting as necessary.
That's the basics.
In actual practice, the three of us are all cross trained in each other's jobs, and 'float' from shop to shop as priorities dictate.
We get our crown moulding and rope trim from a supplier in separate pieces, fasten them together, and stain and laquer them.
Wasn't that fascinating! ;)

I am amazed yet again at the work you guys do! Just fantastic. Glad al is good in your world right now, things are starting to hit normal again out my way too. The orchids? Beautiful, but growing them intimidates the hell out of me.

Lovely work Sling...Makes my bathroom cabinet look like a dolls house one...will have to show Melissa that bathroom cabinet with the pull out bit...she and her husband are going to be house hunting soon...and she does loe her "products" not like me... I just buy a container of Palmers cocoa butter cream at about $7 which lasts months and its face cream and hand cream foot cream everything...its a massive container...

the flowers are beautiful...I have one or two orchids, but I don't do anything to them...other than clear the weeds about them and give them a drink if its dry...they live or they don't live.

I am pleased that all is well in your domain... : )
