Spring Break & Friday Jukebox

Monday morning,as we sat around the break room getting ready to start the work week,Mr.K walked in and made an announcement.
'Good news fellas,we're taking Friday off..With pay!'
This isn't one of our regular paid holidays, and it's not like he'd have to twist our arms over it,but we wondered out loud,'How come?'
'It's Good Friday, and Mrs. K wants you guys to have time off to contemplate you're salvation'.
He was grinning,of course.
We knew it was just another example of how these wonderful people show their appreciation for our labors.

..Bosses that actually sit around thinking up ways to make their employees happy!...I'll just never get over the concept.

I love these guys!
Anyquinox,
Spring has finally arrived,it's a balmy 70 degrees here in O-Town,and I'm in a hella good mood.
I almost want to burst into song!
..but it's probably best if I let Anne Murray do it for me.

Have a great day off.

It must be great to have personal employers who value you and try to make you happy. I have always had the corporate faceless ones. Or worse, the state. Any state.

I wanna work for the K's.

I suppose they'd probably expect me to have a skill of some sort though, wouldn't they?

jan- Until now,I've only ever had corporate bean counting wasteoids for employers..not really, but it seems like that.
I'm constantly amazed by the K's!

JP- You alraedy have the most important skill my friend. You have a work ethic!
No kidding.
Let's see..We can start you out cleaning and caulking, move you up to sanding doors and drawer fronts,..Oh!..Staining!..(I hate staining)
And then it wouldn't be long before you were cutting and shaping on one of our various, finger eating, rip roaring, grab yer babies 'cause this infernal machine wants a piece of you!,power tools.
..I exagerate..a little.
I'll submit an application for you on Monday! ;)

Yellerdawg- There's a saying,in German,that has an unfortunate connotation.
'Albeit macht frie'(work makes you free)..

..because it just does.

I choose to view the positive side of this.
The part where I get to make a contribution.
Have a wonderful Easter JS!..and relax, you deserve it.

I'm with JP....heck I'd work there for lunch. What really wonderful folks. I hope you are sitting quietly in your room contemplating your navel.

rosemary- You have hit on the whole point precisely!
If they came to me and said,'Hey,if you'll come in Saturday, and help us paint the building,we'll buy the beer'..
I'd be there in a dead second.
Naturally,I have to earn a living, but there are some things money can't buy.

Wow Anne Murray is sexy.
You have great bosses, where do I go to paint a building for beer? I'll be there 9 hour drive...so keep the beer cold. And the paint brushes wet. Except after I am done painting they might need me to buy the beer.

You have a truly wonderful workplace.:)

Sage- Anne Murray is a hottie!..I thought it was just me. ;)
After the painting is done,we'll probably all pitch in for barbeque!
It's what we do.

Serena joy- Oops..Missed yer comment first time around.
I know I make a big deal about how much I enjoy working for the K's..But check it out.
Also this week,Mr. K landed a contract with an optometrist that has his office smack on the way from my house,to work.
Part of the deal?..
We all get a free pair of eyeglasses!..
Just the K's effort to improve health care.
Did I mention how much I love these guys?

Simple Rule: If you treat your employees well, they will do better work for you.

Why is that so rare?

allan- All I ever want to do at work,is throw in that extra touch.
I know you know what I'm sayin'.
The minute accountants start figuring out how to save a friggin' nickel, the whole thing goes to shit, and jobs get sent to Taiwan fer chrissake!
It's un-American.

I love the Ks! The Spouse gets Good Friday off, too. It's pretty neat.

Happy Easter, my friend!

As I said earlier Sling you are lucky...

To have a boss like this who feels whoa... thats such a plus. There is still decency and rightness... and we aren't too old to understand this.

We are heading into Autumn... my favourite season but this year easter Sunday (tomorrow) is special because t was (last year) the last perfect day Don and I spent together. I will go out to the Wauchope cemetary ( west from here and in the bush a bit) and honour him... I go out each Sunday but tomorrow it feels like the beginning of saying a real "goodbye for now"

the year turns about. I am a bit of a mess right about now and appreciate my blogger mates .

All the applications are taken, aren't they? Who doesn't love bosses like your bosses? I wish I ... waaait a second. I DO have a boss like your boss. I give myself loads of days off. Sort of. Next item up - paying me for those days.

I hope you did wonderful stuff towards achieving that salvation. Did you do something like an Easter egg hunt? Is that how it works?

They look like good people. Their actions confirm it.

Ahh Anne Murray…takes me back to those looong car trips with my dad controlling the tape deck.

Hope you had a great day off - in Canada its a legal holiday and I was surprised when we lived in Chicago that everyone was working that day. Hell in the old days in Toronto everything was closed tighter than a corporate bean pusher's fist on Good Friday.

You got some good people there but that explains why they have good people working for them.

I used to have a boss like that and it was the absolute best! So, need any office help?? Sub sanding and staining assistant? Gofer??

Your boss rocks. I'm fortunate in the boss department as well - and I am thankful for it! Wow, that must be an early Anne Murray, but there is never any mistaking that voice.

Your boss does indeed rock. Mine was on Spring break with his family, so we left early Friday. We weren't necessarily allowed to leave early, or even encouraged to do so. Happy Easter weekend for us anyway though. I have a lot of catching up to do with your blog, ignore me as I lurk.
