Friday Jukebox..

I was moved by a recent request from my dear friend and faithful reader austexgrl,to rummage around in my giant stainless steel vault for a song that conveyed a feeling that I'm sure we've all been subject to at one time or another.
Haven't you ever longed to be with someone so completely, that their absence left you in literal, and physical pain?
That unsettled distress that begins in the pit of your stomach, and radiates into your chest so that you're very nearly caught short of breath for the damned inequity of the situation?
Hence the term, 'heartache' I suppose..

In any case, speaking for myself,my thoughts immediately leaped to an especially plaintive ballad, performed by the lovely and talented Ms. Dusty Springfield.
(Don't you just love her name BTW?..It's all breezy and natural, and totally in sync with the whole 60's era thing)..

I'm probably going a wee bit out on a limb here, but I'm gonna compare her remarkable vocal ability to the likes of even Barbara Streisand.
Of course, she never did achieve the diva status over the years that Barb enjoyed.
...But still.

I love ole Dusty and I love that song..but if you want to have a song convey heartache..you have to go to the pros...Hank Williams and George Jones. Hank with I'm So Lonesome I could Cry. and George Jones with He Stoped Loving Her Today...now those are heartache songs..

..Glad you kids get a fond memory or two outta this tune!..

Yellerdawg- I love them old country tunes too!..Dusty was the first one I thought of though in this case.

Citizen- ...oops!..My bad.

mom- She wasn't like a huge star or anything.
She had a couple of hits, and did some good covers of other people's stuff.

Thinker- I really don't know if she's related..could be I suppose,but Springfield isn't all that uncommon of a name.

austexgrl- You're very welcome doll! :)

Middle Child- Well dont'cha know I ran right over to Wiki and read her bio.
Probably should have done that to begin with, but no matter.
It didn't occur to me that she might be Irish, but that makes perfect sense because I'm fatally attracted to them Celtic gals, and that just proves it's genetically ingrained in me.
She really did live an interesting life..thanks for the heads up!

I love Dusty and I love this song too. Actually, she was a pretty big star during the sixties. She did a lot of her early stuff with Phil Spector.

Evil G.- I did misspeak about her star status somewhat..I was thinking more along the lines of those that endured, like Diana Ross and such.
After reading her bio,I am duly impressed!

The whoa-is-me blues...the melancholy ache that rises up when that person's name is mentioned--the screaming pain in your chest when you think of that person...ah, yes, I know it well...I have loved often and hard in my days of youth, with scars carved deep and broad. It's the Grand Canyon in the gutt I hate. Like a hunger that can never be quelled--musicians have such a way of singing the blues. Do you have your own ballad?

Record it for us please.

CS- I do have a little breakdown I do when I'm feelin' pensive..No lyrics though.
..Which is probably a good thing.
