If I had a hammer..

..I'd smash something right about now!

I'm checking my news feeds..You know,..link to link to link to ,..'What the fuck??'
Mary Travers died Wednesday,at the age of 72.

No,..'We interrupt this program to bring you a special report!'
No huddled masses, yearning to grieve free.
No helicopters..
No six-hour media homages...

As part of the 6o's folk trio 'Peter,Paul, and Mary',..her soothing vocals spoke to a generation of the futility of war,and the injustices suffered by minorities in this country.
Her music was absolutely instrumental in changing the hearts and minds of people all over this miserable planet toward a more tolerant stance, and had a profound effect on my own ideals in particular.

I guess you had to be there...

'If I had a hammer'

I fully intend to be inconsolable,..for a time.

I've been listening to PP&M records all day. Such a beautiful sound, such a beautiful time. I was young.

Peter, Paul, and Mary were my introduction into "hippie" songs about peace and love. I remember at 10(?) years old, sitting in our basement, listening to their songs and crying.

RIP, Mary. You did so much good in this world.

It was the first music I remember listening to (over the radio) that spoke to my rebel soul...Another light in heaven for sure...

I adore the sound of Peter, Paul and Mary.

But 72 - that's not a bad run. (Although, personally, I want 102.)

It's a lonelier planet, isn't it, when people who've made it more beautiful go.

She DID leave some beautiful tunes behind, though. And although she can't be replaced, I'd like to turn you on to Robbie Fulks (I think that's his name) because you will like him LOADS. And that's the nice thing about music. It will not die.

Our 60's guru told me- I heard nothing on the 'mainstream' radio.

I suffered some minor WTF whiplash when I discovered the news of her death completely by accident,..buried down on some third tier sidebar of an unrelated story I was surfing.
I mean,where are our priorities?
I did an informal survey.
Most of the kids I asked had no clue who Peter,Paul, and Mary were,..but they all knew the words to 'Puff the magic Dragon'!
I just think there is something fundamentally askew about that.
