I may not know the law..

..but I know what I like.
I like Judges...

O.J. Simpson was sentenced to a minimum of 9 years in prison today, for his role in the kidnap, and armed robbery of a sports memorabilia dealer in Las Vegas.

I frequently find myself in the minority of those that say O.J. was 'not guilty' of the murder of Nichole Brown, and Ron Goldman,by virtue of the fact that he was found to be so by a jury of his peers.

That case, has no business being considered in the adjudication of his guilty verdict in this most recent complaint, and I applaud the Judge's skillfully crafted decision.

Perhaps you may disagree.
I really do understand your frustration.

'He got away with murder!'..

..and that may very well be...To this day,I'm undecided.
I am convinced that the State failed to make it's case beyond a reasonable doubt, and the jury in his murder trial made the correct decision under the law.
While the possibilty of a life sentence loomed on the horizon for O.J this very day,I think the judge made the proper call in her next-to-minimum sentence on the grounds that he has never been convicted of a previous felony act.

Feel free to vent your own dissenting opinion in 'comments' if you like.

As for me,..I've learned my lessons the hard way, just like my dad predicted I would eventually do,and have decided upon this firm commitment;..

I ain't misbehavin'..

I am just glad he is going to jail. He really thinks he is above the law. The fact that he did lose the civil lawsuit and owed money and then hid his money ....in itself he is a bastard.

Sage- He's an insufferable bastard!..(Boy,..am I ever glad there's no specific law against that!)..

No doubt,it led to his assumption that he could walk into a hotel room with a posse of armed compatriots, and get away with forcing his will upon the occupants..

Take a nine-year time out O.J!..The rest of us are tryin' to behave like adults.

Any comments I had about the guilt or innocence of Mr. Simpson immediately left my head when I hit play. You planned it that way. I still can't wipe the smile off my face.

OJ killed his wife. He slit her throat and cut her repeatedly; SLING, her head was literally almost severed from her body...she slowly, bled out onto the stone walkway. Then he brutally, savagely stabbed a very young man who had come to see her. He had beat her repeatedly for years, (documented). He is evil. Then, years later, after being investigated for brutalizing his young children, and beating his girlfriend, he arrogantly robbed, at gunpoint, two memorabilia salesman. They, too were crooks. It is not okay to rob anyone, even crooks..He is long, long overdue for punishment... I cannot even speak his name.

Like most people I was fascinated with the trial, and I admit it. I watched it all and I agree that the state didn't prove its case but with millions of dollars of defense, no state could have proven the case. I think maybe he will continue to seek the real killers, like he said he would do, in jail.

Thinker- I'll plead No lo contendre to having planned against any rebuttals..Damm,.I love the law!

austexgrl- I'm trying to imagine the scenario in which Ron stands by,patiently awaiting his turn to be slaughtered, while O.J,or any single person goes about the onerous task of beheading his companion..
You know, every one considers Nichole to be the object of the assault, because O.J is such a high profile defendant.
How about this?;..
Why was Ron even there?
Ostensibly to return Nichole's sunglasses, left at the restuarant where he worked....bullshit...
Ron was there to deal drugs, and he owed some very serious people some very serious money as a matter of co-incidence.
..Sorry,but my own experience tells me that Ron was the most likely target of more than one persons sent to exact retribution, and Nichole just happened to be in the wrong place,at the wrong time...
'Who the hell is this blonde bitch ??'..A witness!.Do her too!'

..I only offer this as an alternative perspective, because I truly believe it would take at least two persons to commit that double murder,in the limited space of the home's side yard, and my understanding of the way things work in the shadows.

jan- On the other hand!..O.J hasn't exactly redeemed himself by his actions, subsequent to his aquittal has he!..
So when I think about that, and the fact that there was DNA present that mostly matched O.J,..I have to wonder what he and his son were doing in those small hours of the morning?..
Don't ya just love a good mystery!!

Big Yellerdawg- I love you darlin'!!.. :)

I love you, Sling. And not just because of the video, but because you are such an even tempered, thoughtful dude.

Me? I can't help being pretty delighted about the verdict. Because despite my general conviction that dude isn't clean for Nicole's murder, the fact is, he WAS for damn sure guilty of this latest crime.

Either way, karma is a bitch. Something we all do well to remember.

Rainey- Here's the thing.. :)
O.J is 61 years old,and is beyond any expectation, going to be 70 before he is even eligible for parole.(which ain't gonna happen on his first try,..I mean,..seriously)..
So,now he's lookin' at 3-5 years before his next opportunity to be cut loose, under the watchful eye of the parole department for an additional 28 freakin' years!..
Try not to get caught spitting on the sidewalk for three decades..
He's effectively serving a life sentence.

A well thought out decision by the Judge and a well thought out posting by our Sling - both based on experience. However unlike the Judge you leave us with a smile of delight not smug satisfaction. Enjoy the later more.

Maybe George W. will pardon him. You know, a favor from one murderous lying bastard to another.

mom- Leon does my favorite version of that tune! :)

Willym- I've always had nothing but respect for Judges because I've always been treated fairly, even more than fairly,by them..
Glad you had some grins. :)

Billy P.- I think Mel Gibson was in charge of jury selection..

JP- ..then Georgie could be the first American President to be assasinated after he left office!

Glad he is going to jail. And sheep do look funny after they've been sheared. But usually they are very happy to be rid of that wooly coat.

Sling..Goodness, you do give us a lot to think about. That's why I love this blog. But sorry, I still think he's a slimeball..and there are very few people in this world I don't like ( well, maybe George W.)

Nice balance.

I think O.J. committed murder and got away with it, so, emotionally, I am happy with justice delayed.

On the other hand, it sets a terrible precedent for harsh sentencing based on prior exoneration.

Lost- I think this whole time,he's just assumed he was gonna get cut loose1..He's in for a reality check.
Maximum security prison is gonna make county jail look like a day spa.

austexgrl- Like the judge told him,'I didn't know if you were arrogant,or stupid..I think now that you're both!

allan- His biggest mistake, among many, was taking guns to the confrontation.
Those 'enhancements' are a sonofabitch!

Sling, I couldn't agree with you more on this--I guess I'm in the minority, too, as I am not sure whether he did kill his wife or not. But he certainly deserves to be put behind bars for this crime that he WAS convicted of...

Miss HP- I really do think the system worked in both cases. :)

Guilty of murder? I don't know for absolutely sure...no one does but the murderer. Guilty of robbery, kidnapping? I watched every single day of the trial....he and his cohorts that taped the event made it an easy verdict. what he is absolutely guilty of is arrogance, assholedness, being a prick and stupid. Sorry for the bad words.

:( I had to make a point of not reading any one else's comments, lest I be swayed by a gang of my own peers. You're not alone on the first thingie. I believe in the system and believe people who serve on juries take it seriously. I believe I was really lucky to not be nominated by lawyer friends. I was the only one they'd ever met who 1. hadn't seen the big old Bronco chase and 2. knew nothing about it. I'd been living abroad and it just didn't register with me.

I'm with you Sling on this...it was like this with Lindy Chamberlain here in Australia...every second person said they "knew" she was guilty...ow did they know, because the media made her look ike a loony tunes...

she wasn't. They bodgied up the pathology and lied...got conviction which was overturned later...she and her husband knew they were innocent...but even people to day say they knew...

Just because you don't like a person doesn't mean they can be thrown to the wolves...
God will sort out his apples if he did kill her and partner...if not there is a murderer out there who is still to be found???Now thats a thought.

loved the singing animals real sleepy stuff.
