Today is Bob's birthday..

Bob was a whole lotta things.
  • He was a thick-necked German.
  • He was a child of the Great Depression.
  • He was scrupulously honest.
  • He was a decorated veteran of WWII.
  • He was a brilliant mathematician.
  • He was a mean drunk.
  • He was a dedicated worker..From the time he started working at 16,until he retired,he didn't miss a single day's work..Not one.single.day.
  • He was absolutely the worst joke teller that ever lived.
  • He was my Dad.
He died about twelve years ago, more or less..I don't keep track of such things.
Had he lived,he would have been 86 years old this very day.

Happy Birthday,you cranky old bastard!

happy birthday bob! bob sounds a lot like my dad.

he's 87 and still drinking but he gets lost now instead of mean after a few drinks.

oh yeah, this is my fast food princess' birthday.

Sounds an awful lot like my dad as well. He was a white knuckle drunk, and mean more often than not. All that control, and no way to escape his self imposed dry torture. I think I would have been happier if he just drank 'til he passed out. I would have had an easier time evading him when I was in the crosshairs. He never missed a day of work either. He also had many fine points, and was a gifted artist. Happy Birthday to your dad.

My father was of that generation. Hard to live up to and that's why no later generation ever did.

I want to thank all you kids for your warm wishes, and thoughtful comments.
Things are pretty good here in the afterlife.
God chaps my ass every once in a while,..what with his cheating at solitaire and all,so when he tries to call me on my own transgressions I just tell him to go piss up a tree!
Sling,(I really hate that name,by the way..and he knows that),loves you guys,so I guess you're all good folks,of fine character.
..Lock the door on your way out.

Wonderful trobute Sling...my dad would have been ninety...was killed in 1969...started work in the abbatoir at 12...and was such a loving dad and funny...he was a sleepy drunk when it happened and very gentle...while you and I and the rest live they still live because they live in our heads.

Happy Birthday Bob. He sounds a lot like my old man, who just turned 87 on the 5th of March.

Johnny has mellowed a bit in his old age and really doesn't drink any more. He made my childhood hell, but he's tried to make up for it since.

Happy Birthday Bob. What a work ethic! It's a shame we don't see that as much anymore. And Sling, it's great that you can recognize someone's flaws and still pay tribute to them. Congratulations for that.
