Sling's got a ticket to ride!..

I may have given the impression in my last post, that O-Town was still enjoying a crisp Fall landscape.
..NOT!
We've been huddled against record low temperatures (17F.-27F.) for the last several days, and it's pretty much taken it's toll.

Fortunately for the owner of this Walnut orchard, the season's harvest has already been brought in.
..The ground is covered for acres in glistening crystal spheres.
Automatic sprinkler systems created these curious ice sculptures overnight!

..I don't know if the trees look creepy,or beautiful.
I think beautiful.

Even a weed takes on an interesting silhouette, when it's locked in suspended animation..

Those industrious kids that put that world famous California citrus on our tables, may not have fared as well.
The Mandarin Oranges,my personal favorite, ripened early enough, but Grapefruit and Navel Oranges still have a week or so,and some losses are expected.
..We'll just pass the costs on to your morning Orange juice.

********In The Woots and Hoos News!********

Christmas is ever joyous for me wherever I celebrate..Still,I've been absent from
the hearth of kin on this occasion for the last five years, and quite naturally miss being surrounded by sleepy-eyed Slinglets come Christmas morn.
This year,I'll be hauling my happy ass down south to spend the holiday with Darling Daughter, and the entire Brood!..
I'm holding the round-trip tickets (via Greyhound) Darling Daughter sent me,even as we speak.
Plus!..As an added bonus!..She's promised to throw a super soiree in honor of my having managed to circle the Sun yet another year, without getting hit by a bus...THANK YOU BABY!

It's Friday, and it may be as cold as a witch's tit outside,..but life is warm and fuzzy on the inside in Sling's Domain..

It's cold here too but at least you have sunshine sparkling on all that ice.

I think it's great when grandparents have a chance to corrupt...er, be with the tiny ones.

That tree is beautiful in a creepy sort of way. It would look just right outside a haunted house.

So glad you get to be with the family this year. I'm sure you will entertain them all with your wonderful stories.

Sage- Trying to ply me with whiskey?..Wurx for me! ;)

Jan- It was a most glorious day for sure.
The sun was shining in clear blue skies, yet temps in the low 30's preserved the ice field, even unto the next day...I love that stuff!

Billy P.- ..I wish I had invested in Walnuts, instead of solar powered flashlights.

Mom- I love telling them stories..Nothing beats the skeptical look of a grandchild, and the eventual 'Oh Grandpa!'.. :)

Yellerdawg- You going to Michigan for Christmas?..Cool!..I love traveling on the bus.
Did I ever tell you about the time I went from Kansas City to Baltimore, and met the highly skilled and delightful Samantha?..I'm pretty sure Greyhound gave her commuter rates.

austexgrl- Aren't you sweet!..Thanks doll. :)

This was just like opening a Christmas stocking!

I like winter pictures - not just the obvious big fat snow loveliness ones. Winter pictures work like a switch and make me feel toasty inside.

Oh, GOOOD for us that walnuts survived because there is NOTHING like walnut oil. The world would be a much more dismal place without walnut oil.

Just saying. Walnut oil's a good thing.

And it's SOOO exciting to think of you traveling the length and height of California for adventures with the family. No. It's ... romantic. And when's our birthday? (I guess I could look that up in the archives, couldn't I?)

Laurent- Oops..Missed you the first time around.
I won't be that far south..I will be able to see the Los Angeles skyline north of my daughter's house.

Booda Babe- Brownies would be naked without walnuts!..They'd still be packed with chocolatey goodness however.
..I was born on Christmas day,1953.
Mom said it was just like opening a Christmas stocking, only not as much fun.

Welcome to winter, my friend! *smiles* Those pictures were cool--I really liked the tree one.

I'm so glad to hear that you'll be with your family on the holiday...I'm sure it'll be a lovely time indeed! :)

I have never seen frost or ice like that...see I don't even know the difference...I gave in today and turned the air conditioner on in the lounge room and bugger the cost...will pay that when it comes due...its too hot to sit still without it but too hot to do anything.

I am pleased you have a good Christmas planned. That daughter of yours sounds like a great kid... and you are going to love being the "old" man for the kids...maybe you could play Santy Sling for the kiddos...enjoy.

Lots of photos of course...

Miss HP- It seemed like winter landed on us like a ton of bricks!..Actually,we had some freakishly cold temps there for a few days, but things have settled down to more fall like conditions.
Rain the last two days, and temps in the 40-50 degree range.

Middle Child- Those unusual ice formations were the result of rotating sprinklers showering spray all night in freezing temps..The droplets probably froze within a few seconds, and just continued to pile up.
..I still find it odd that you kids celebrate Christmas in the summertime.
I mean,I understand the concept of course, but it's hard to wrap my head around.

Secret Agent Woman- It's unanimous!

Thinker- Time is flying WAY too fast!
I'm glad I get to spend x-mas with the grandkids before they turn 30. ;)
