On second thought..
I did have a post here, which was simply a link to lorraine's recent post.
Please take a moment to read what she has to say, really read it,and think about what it is you want for yourselves, your progeny, and your country.
Believe me,I can understand how easy it is to become apathetic.
We hear the same rhetoric during every campaign.
"It's time for a change!"
"Let's finish the job!"
Only things never seem to change, and "the job" never quite gets done.
We find ourselves,at best, trying desperately to pick the lesser of two evils,at worst, foregoing the process altogether because there just doesn't seem to be any point to it.
Well, friends and neighbors,..SNAP THE FUCK OUT OF IT!..
We like to strut around calling ourselves the most powerful nation in the world.A beacon.Land of the free, and home of the brave.
News flash kiddies!..Our government derives it's power from the people.
THE people...
THE PEOPLE!...People.
Are you kidding me??
We have the ability,.. scratch that,..it's our moral obligation to say,"This is what we want, this is how it's gonna be,and if you can't do it,by GOD we'll find someone who will!".."If you think you've got my vote because I'm a Democrat/Republican then you better wake up and smell the unemployment line buddy because I WILL fire your ass before breakfast, and forget your name by brunch!".
"Don't make me come over there dammitt!"..
Lorraine says it better...Rock the Vote!

how the love of the goddess...vote democrat..
I am sooo glad Lorraine has the time to write for me too...:P I linked to her as well...lol
nicely said Sling!
yellowdog G.-:)
grish-No kidding, after reading her post I was thinking the only thing I could add was,"Please spay or nueter your pets"..;)
Great job sling... now Im off to vote or as like to put it.. get my right to bitch card
I hear "Go out and vote" shouted endlessly, like an unexamined mantra. And it always comes from folks who are happy with a candidate or a party and who assume the same is true for everyone else in the entire country.
My problem is that no packaged deal fits with my belief system ... and I can't bring myself to compromise half of my belief system by voting for one or the other. I agree with half of what Democrats believe in and half of what Republicans believe in. I'm screwed!
I'm glad so many of my friends fit perfectly with one of the available parties. I don't think I will ever come close. (And please don't tell me that write-ins will make a difference, or that I should run myself -- that's like suggesting I open a restaurant because I can't find one to dine in.)
Never assume that if someone doesn't vote they're lazy. In some extremely important cases, they haven't found someone who represents their views.
citymouse-Lol...You go kid!..You make me proud to say I know a card carrying,,well,..you know.. ;)
dan-Thanks for your comment my friend, let's talk about this.
I know very few people that are 100% satisfied with their party affiliation.
That's how it should be.We need to hold the people that are supposed to represent us to standards that speak to something more noble than we,as individuals, can ever hope to achieve.
Who can live up to that?..Probably nobody.So what..I'm talking about a concept.An ideal...Freedom.
There can't possibly be a package deal, because the thing is greater than the sum of it's parts, and will not be so conveniently contained. It will,by it's very nature, seek out the weaknesses of it's constraints, and find them failing.
I may have given the impression that I considered those that choose not to vote as being "lazy".That was not my intent.
My very real concern is that people choose not to vote out of abject resignation to the status quo,..and that,my dear friend, breaks my heart.
Sling, I can't argue with you there. My point was that I wasn't even close to 100%. I'm more like 50% Dem and 50% Rep.
Thanks for taking the time to respond so eloquently my friend. That's why you're on my Blog Roll ... even though you're not a hottie. ;)
Whew, what an astounding night...
We can sleep now knowing our country is safer from acts of republican terrorism.
By the by, please stop by OregonDistrict.com and help some of my good friends get a nice site off the ground. And stop by the house of the unholy, (thats me) and say hello!
dan-lol..so yer sayin' I ain't pretty? :)
dirk_star-Things are certainly looking a lot less grim this morning.
Maybe little georgie will start to realize that he serves at our pleasure, not the other way around..Thanks for dropping by!
I'll be visiting you.
as the klingon captain said to kirk:
"the game's afoot"
i think haliburton and bechtel may have been bigger losers than bush last night.
Ah, shucks, Sling. I think you said it pretty frakking well yourself. (Although I blew coffee out my nose at the "spay and neuter your pets" comment. You a funny a man).
ruby rocks-The game is,indeed,afoot!..
It's gonna be very interesting to see what transpires in the next two years.
lorraine-Hey!..I wanted to do a public service announcement too.. :)
Not surprisingly, all that hard work you did yesterday yielded some pretty encouraging results.
Freaky-I was pretty sure I was a hottie,thanx for your support! ;)
Now for the inevitable miniature rant..
Freaky,if the choices we have seem dismal,or mediocre at best,I blame us.
We can't just throw up our hands and say,"What difference can I make?",because the whole thing will do what all things do when left unattended,..seek the path of least resistance..That leads to mediocrity. Americans, and the things we stand for,are so much better than that.
It's our job to keep the heat on.
It's our job to hold our representatives to a higher standard.
We do that, individually and collectively,by participating in the process.
If the choices aren't satisfactory, then show your dissatisfaction..Hell,if nothing else, fire the incumbent and start over.
Preach it, brother!
Well done everyone!
Nice mini-rant, Sling.
Dan: You said
(...please don't tell me... that I should run myself -- that's like suggesting I open a restaurant because I can't find one to dine in.)
A few years ago, some of my friends and I complained to our NPR station that they didn't provide enough local news coverage- they told us:
"If you don't like it, go start your own radio station"
We've been on-air since 01/01/05!
dan-I'll second the well done!
I've been all over Bloggertown and the brightest and most interesting people I've found reside on my blogroll...
Agree agree agree...so good to hear the same stuff over there as here...nothing separates the people...other than the created and manipulated "fear" of each other... we are the same the world over...
