This is my plan..

About half a dozen times in my life,I've been "by" the Grand Canyon, but have never actually SEEN it.
Oh,I've seen the signs on the highway;
Grand Canyon.. 3 miles..
Grand Canyon.. next right..
Grand Canyon.. So close you could friggin' spit on it..
Always, there has been some reason why I couldn't take the time to just go there.Business, time constraints, hormonal ex-wives,..whatever.

The Lizzard King and I each have vacation time coming,so the week of March 19th we're renting an SUV,(I know..Global warming and all that, but hey!..it's the Grand freakin' Canyon fer Chrissake!),and taking a road trip...

We'll pack up little Newt, some few cares,a smattering of woes, and high tail it out to the "Southern Rim".(See,..I'm gettin' the lingo down).

About half way there,we intend to spend the night at a friend's house to enjoy some pleasant company, and rub her nose in the fact that we're on a free-wheeling adventure..."Oh,...YOU have to work?..bummer..".

The whole thing is virtually cast in bronze!
Grand Canyon here we come!..or maybe San Francisco..it's kind of a toss up..

I haven't been reading you long enough to know who the Lizard King or little Newt are....but either place is a winner. Depends on whether you want traffic, Chinatown, Cable Cars and people, or, nature, people, some traffic and the most beautiful vistas God made. You will have a ton of fun!!! When I was a kid, every summer we hit the road and took all the truck routes..my dad was a truck driver...did the Canyon, the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest...magnificnet, glorious places. honeymooned in Frisco...had the time of my life!

The Grand Canyon is phenomenal - saw it as a kid - and well worth the visit, but I've yet to take my own kids there. But I spent some childhood years in the Bay area, and took the kids a few years ago and it has a whole lot to recommend it. I'm with Rosemary - you win either way.

heeeeey - wouldn't an elbow-sitting pic atop the grand canyon be the prize of your collection?

(can you tell i'm still in awe of your talent?)

CSL-I just HAVE to see the Grand Canyon..It's on my life list.

B.Brat-Oh Man!...I swear,I'm gonna do that!(but if I forget,there are definitely gonna be pix)

apos-No problem...you'll need 2 picture ID's,Birth Certificate,shot record,and $19.95 in "Administration" fees... ;)

Okay...I've lived in SF, and it was cool back then. I don't know about now...things change, cities grow, but still. But I've NEVER been to the Grand Canyon. Like you - NEAR it, but not TO it. I would be heading there if it were my decision. Besides, SF isn't THAT far from you, is it? Renting an SUV and taking the whole gang is Grand Canyon-worthy, dontcha think?

I saw the Grand Canyon when I was 6 and it is still indelibly etched in my mind. You really do need to cross this one off your list. SF is great but you just gotta see the Canyon. Gotta, gotta. And I think with all your bike riding and such you've already offset the CO2 for this trip.

This brings back some memories...good ones for a change. Go to the Canyon.
You'll love it.
Don't litter.

I probably won't be near Texas for awhile.Maybe if I go back to Colorado.
We've actually decided on the Grand Canyon, but I hate to jinx it by saying that. We've resreved a vehicle, and set things up for an overnight stay at some friends down south...and I promise to pack out whatever I pack in. :)

Dude! Please get a photo of that sign. Everyone takes photos of the canyon itself ... yawn. But no one ever gets that sign. I'd love to see it!

Enjoy yourself my friend. You deserve it.

dan- Dude!...I like that idea.
It would be a good souvenir of all the times I was THAT close, and didn't make it.

if someone wants to take your picture and keeps asking you to back up a little, be careful.

maybe you should watch a few coyote/roadrunner cartoons before you go.

have a good trip and make clark grizwold proud.
