The Huns are gonna invade Poland!..

Everyone at work was in a panic last week, due to the early arrival of daylight savings time.
"How will this affect my computer Sling?",they kept asking.(They also kept asking,"have you seen my wallet?"..but that's another story)..
This reminded me of the big "Millennium Scare" of last century.

  • All the computers,in all the world, are gonna crash!

  • Financial institutions worldwide are gonna collapse!

  • Telecommunications won't be able to,you know,..telecommunicate!

  • We're gonna elect a hillbilly psychopath President!..er...you get the idea..
The millennium came and went, and life continued pretty much the same.Although Microsoft,in an admirable display of predatory capitalism, made buttloads of easy money selling so-called "Fixes" to a vulnerable public....anywhiz..

I told 'em the same thing I told 'em last time.
"Computers only know what you tell them, and they think every thing you tell them is true"..Much like children, and several women I've dated.
Worst case scenario,you'll need to go into your control panel,and manually change the time.However,I suspected that the good folks hunkered down in the secret bunkers of "Internet Time Central"would handle the intricate task of re-adjusting our clocks for us.I imagine the conversation went something like this;
"Barb, don't forget to change the setting on the Universal Time Prognosticator before you go to lunch!"..
"Okay Steve"..

Clearly, this is what transpired, because I woke up this morning to find that my computer had successfully navigated the intricacies of "Spring Forward".

Tomorrow I will bask in the glory of,once again, being correct!

'Twas ever thus..

I changed my home clocks just fine and my computer is smart like yours, but my little kitty clock that I stole from you but in a different style stayed the same, so I guess I will just have to wait until maybe it fixes itself because I wasted over a half an hour trying to guess the correct time zone this morning. Do you have Barb or Steve's email address because maybe they can wave their magic wands froggie and fix my kitty clock. As for the hillbilly prez and my wallet...they are still lost.

Yellowdog G.-In your control panel, you should be able to go into "date/time",click on the "Time zone" tab,and check the box that says "automatically adjust for daylight savings time"...pretty sure.. :)

My computer is off by 3 hours. I don't think it's ever adjusted to anything. Stupid Dell.

lorraine-Here is my advice;
From the "Start" menu, click on "control Panel"..
Then click on "Date and Time"..You can set the correct time from there..
Then click on "Time Zone",and check the box that says "automatically adjust clock for daylight savings time changes"..
Then flap your arms, and crow like a Rooster...I'll wait.....
You should be all set!.I'll be posting the video on U-Tube.. ;)

if something chaotic were to transpire, it would probably be during one of my naps. therefore i would be just as unaffected as it always turns out everyone is. people seem to enjoy getting up in arms. they need to take more naps.

monica-Hi kid!..
Lemme tell ya,..I am TOTALLY against this pre-emptive change to daylight savings time!..Furthermore,I blame the Republicans for...ZZZZZZZZZ..

I was going to boycott the whole daylight savings thing, because we all need to, but then I realized that I was going to miss all my favorite tv shows. So I gave in, as usual.

I'm such a puppet.

yes I remember being on "high alert" that night at the Club...fucken load of crap, all that build-up and bloody nothing happened...orrr did it? but because we took "measures" and paid our computer "people" lots of money for their man hours it didn't. mm hmmm. yeah right.

my computer will update automatically. it's clever like that.

Can't I just do what I always do? Come over here and see what time it is? Alright, fine. I'll try it. I knew about the control panel...obviously it's the rooster step that was left out of my user's guide. Thanks. Cock-a-doodle doo.

We are about to ":step back" into winter down under..in Australia some states don't have daylight saving which makes it mighty difficult to coordinate phone calls... like when its 7am here and thats the time 2 of my sisters and I catch up with each other,,,and I phone them in Queensland..and its 6AM...

Ha ha

when I was about 4 mum told me I used to spring into bed with her and dad, all soggy wet as toddlers are, and invite them to get up singing "Get up if you gotta get up" over and over till they did...

Lucky I had such tolerant parents

Mine changed on it's own too. I was amazed. Now if only my other clocks would have moved forward on their own as well...

My old computer, which has an auto change thing, did not, so that took probably 5 seconds out of my life. Otherwise, the other computers handled it on their own. I changed the alarm clock, microwave, etc. Such a very inconsequential thing. BUT, if it were up to me, I'd leave it as is. There's no season when I wouldn't rather have the extra daylight at the end of the day.

My branch library had a bunch that were not updated. Turns out the "automatically adjust for DST" box wasn't checked. If you want something done right.... so I did it myself.

I have this nifty clock in my bedroom that magically figures out what time it is when you plug it in and tell it what time zone you're in - even when the power goes out and stuff. It didn't update. So I had to tell it I was in a different time zone (you can't manually change the time). I have to remember to move back to my real time zone in a couple of weeks or I'll be getting up REALLY early. I am not a big fan of this new DST schedule as it has plunged me back into darkness when I get up in the AM. Boo!
