Things that go "bump"..
I had an interesting nightmare last night.
I was driving along a dirt road in a motor home with my infant daughter in the back when,without warning,the vehicle dropped into a sinkhole,and I found myself in the basement of an old Victorian-style house.
My daughter was missing.
An unpleasant looking man approached me,and in a threatening manner asked if I had any "Technology".
I did have a cell phone,but I ignored him and began to search for my child.
The house went on forever,although I could only see a few feet in any direction as I searched..The sinister man following behind me.
At one point I came into a room where there were many people dancing naked,covered with tattoos,and possessed of various deformities.
I got the sense they were dancing for me.
Suddenly my phone rang,and the man came toward me ,glowering.
I was truly afraid.
Just as suddenly,I found myself in "town",telling the sheriff about my experience...
"The killer is Archie Cox",he said,...and I woke up.

In general I think you have to think through what the elements of the dream mean and your own particular associations to them - I don't go uch for universal symbols. That said, howver, houses are often representations of the self (your "home") and the basement the unconscious. So, interested dream about what lies buried for you!
CSL-I totally agree with you about deciding how the symbolism relates to me,and have a few ideas.
What I found curious was that there was really no catalyst for the imagery that I can determine,..and who the hell is Archie Cox??..
I immediately went to google "Archie Cox"... I saw something about a cat and a cockroach.
Dreams are the creepiest when you can literally FEEL that they mean something but you can't get to what. Happens to me all the time but I am a crazy.
monica-While I don't put any great significance on dreams per se,I do think they can help us to examine ourselves,and maybe put things into better perspective.
And you're right about the FEEL.This was a "first person" dream,rather than being observed from the out side point of view..Very powerful.
All I could think of while reading was the book Cell by Stephen King.

Do you have a daughter? Do you recall blogging about getting your house fixed....you are a sexual being aren't you?....I just hope your daughter isn't scarred for life if she saw naked men!!! Exactly what was deformed?? You did talk to the sheriff about your bike....Ok , I got nothin. You're probably supposed to go to an old house and get a tat of a naked deformed woman and then the sheriff will raid the place and there you go...except for the Archie Cox thing.

Sorry Sling can't tell you...but Emmanuel Swedenborg hd a book called Correspondences which explained in very hard to understand the significance of dreams...Was it in vivid colour or greyscale?
Vivid colour dreams with almost a light behind the colour usually stay with you for a while...
I had a penny dreadful dream last night...to do with Colostomy bags exploding everywhere...fully sick! and slipping over...in you know what...
Its not a sick fantasy...just my worst nightmare and has nearly happened in real life...but in the dream I was totally unconcerned about the disaster around me...go figure that.
Daughter -- fear of her moving on
Naked people dancing for you -- people are opening up to you and it may feel uncomfortable
Killer is Archie Cox --- ok, not sure but try switching the letters / similar names you know --is someone "killing" your relationships? are you afraid some one is?

You're an efficient dreamer! I can't believe that it so neatly wrapped up in the end. Mine are never like that. I never get to know who the killer is.
I have a 31 year old daughter that recently told me she was pregnant.
One of the deformed people had no hands.
I'm not in a relationship,nor do I plan on it.
While I do dream in color,this one was in shades of black and white.
I've dreamed of a simillar house before.I always think of the biblical phrase,"In My Father's house,there are many mansions.I go now to prepare a place for you."
