I think,therefore,I am..confused

I decided to wait a bit for the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech to unfold before I commented on it,and I still can't adequately filter through all the ramifications. This thing that makes people want to act out their aggression,or retaliate for some perceived injustice by committing mass murder, has become so prevalent, that to express outrage has become redundant to me...and discouraging.
Discouraging because as sure as God made little green apples, some twisted individual is devising his strategy for claiming the title of "Most innocent people slaughtered in a single heinous act of fuckery" even as we speak..You know it's true...I just don't think it's gonna stop.

I mean, what can we REALLY do?

I'm a die hard Constitutionalist.DO NOT mess with my Bill of Rights.
Yet,even I am beginning to entertain thoughts about stricter gun control laws.
My good friend lorraine, who's moral compass has, from time to time, helped to guide me through the labyrinthine corridors of my own archaic beliefs has written a compelling post on the topic.

Still, just like her,I know that evil will contrive to do evil.
This makes me wonder if any effort along these lines would have any impact at all.
We could very well take all the guns,in all the world, beat them into plowshares, only to have a determined few shatter our humanity with little more than a hand full of box cutters...I swear,I just don't know what the hell to think any more, and I'm tired of it.

My prayers go out to the victims and their families of this most recent act of insanity...till next time.

And this latest, pathetic murderer continues to get his day of horrible acts drawn out so the grieving families can feel even worse. I don't think it is going away soon. I actually heard someone on the news say..." You know Snodgrass, this wasn't the largest number killed in a rampage"....and he continued on. What the hell...anything for news? The whole thing is sick.

As they say, sometimes bad things happen to good people... and unfortunately, it's not something we can control. All we can do is pray and hope they'll all be okay wherever they are...

I think all the media coverage is responsible, in large part, for the way in which people have chosen to "take revenge". Everyone knows that their horrible crime will be blasted across the airwaves 24/7 for days and days, so if you're totally pissed off - and mentally messed up, why not do something huge and get as much press as possible for what you're planning? It's sick and sad. And I don't think any amount of gun control will stop people like this. As you said - box cutters killed 3,000 people...not a gun in sight. Maniacs will find a way....

and you know right now..some demented crazed psycho is at home seeing all this coverage and attention this nut job is getting over this senseless carnage and thinking..."I could buy 3 guns, more bullets, and kill more people and will become famous..."
I am for harsher gun laws...I don't think our founding fathers invisioned their citizens mowing down innocent teenagers and old men when they put the right to bear arms in the constitution...we have more murders (with the exception of countries with no laws)..and the worse gun laws...we should follow the example that Australia set..and see how they cut down on mass killings...sigh*..but what ever will be done..will be too late for these kids..

No matter what the NRA says, I don't think civilians have the right to bear automatic weapons. Why would a citizen need a full-auto handgun with a extra-capacity clip? Target practice? Those things used to illegal.

used to be illegal, i mean

Allof the above...
It's like there is some bizarre game show where the contestant with the highest body count wins a trip to friggin' Aruba or something.
I know that there are legitimate gun collectors, but I can't think of any reason why a private citizen needs a FULLY FUNCTIONAL automatic weapon. They have only one use.Create the greatest number of casualties in the least amount of time.

***THIS JUST IN***
Schools in O-Town,as well as other neighboring towns went on FULL LOCKDOWN today because some dickweed in Yuba City promised to "Outdo" the Virginia Tech killer...Read the story here.

I saw a little coverage of this last night, but that's it. It's sad. As you might imagine, my vote is for turning swords into plowshares. But I'm especially in agreement with Allan about automatic weapons. While I think peole might make a reasonable case for some guns (ack, I can't believe I just typed that) I can't see any legitinate reason for owning an automatic weapon. They ar designed to kill many people quickly, end of story.

Two other minor things: 1) I used to hear that song as a kid and wonder if Indiannpolis was really unusually dry in the summer and 2) I just noticed you changed my blog title in your sidebar - thanks!

i think we are a morally primitive species with an advanced ability to kill each other.

our morality may never catch up with our weaponry.

it's depressing.

Geez, honey, your moral compass seems to be just fine to me. And it's all just sad and stupid and all that other stuff. You know how I feel.

I think some serious drinking at the club this weekend is in order. And one of the things we'll do is celebrate life and friendship.

CS-I could easily live with a total ban on automatic weapons,and;
1)Thanx for noting the reference,I was beginning to feel really old ;)
2)I like the new blog title..It suits you!

grish-I LOVE crazy people!...Psychopaths,..not so much.

The Rube-Here's what I wish the media would do;
"Stay tuned for in-depth profiles of every innocent victim of this tragedy..The killer's name was "Schmuck"..

..maybe if we didn't give so much attention to these festering boils on the ass of society, they would forego the initial slaughter, and just put a bullet in their own head...One can only hope.

lorraine-My compass has a tendency to be about a half-bubble off from time to time, but that's okay. The Lord can use that quality as He sees fit..
I'm lovin' the idea of celebrating friendship!I'll be ready to start my shift at the club precisely at ten!..ish..or 11:30..No later than noon.

monica-I can look at that smile, and know you don't really believe that.
I read your blog, and trust that the future truly IS bright! :)
