This is my plan..

Oh,some may consider it evil, but I've got it all worked out to the last detail.
Sublime in it's subtlety, and monumental in it's impact!
I have this new little life in the form of a Grandson(my first and only)about to burst forth,(okay,..yucky euphemism, but still..) upon the world.
Imagine a day,in the not too distant future.
There will be a conversation like this;

Daughter: "Dad,will you keep an eye on little Jackson while I go to the store?"
Evil Dad: "Why,yes my darling daughter..I will be happy to!"
Daughter: "And don't play any of that damm Hippie music yer always listening to!..Got it!!"
Evil Dad: "Oh,..I wouldn't dare go against your wishes Princess..(Insert innocent look here).
Daughter: Fine...I'll be right back...(exits)

A'ight buddy...Check this out.
It has flutes, and violins, and accoustic guitars, and terrific harmonies..Hell,..It's even got audience participation fer chrissake!..

It's all about indoctrination at a young age my pretty's! ..BWAHAHA!

Right on! Way to corrupt the next generation!

Also, on a completely shallow note, Loggins is still hot. Messina, not so much. But his voice is like buttah!

One of my favorite albums ever.. Vahevala was always my personal fave though.. But still have fond memories of singing Danny's Song at a few weddings and a welcome to the world little person gathering.. sniffle ;)

One of the reasons to look forward to grand babies- I get to mess with a whole new generation!! Hee hee, evil grandma with bitchin' shoes, I love that whole idea!!

You go grandpa! Best wishes and good thoughts for a healthy and happy little human upon you and yours.

No child left behind lorraine.
And Kenny?..My daughter has been to his house on a few occasions,so I don't imagine she would mind all that much..Really.

doralong-Honestly,it was a difficult choice between Pooh corner, and Danny's song..I have a liking for Ann Murray's version of the latter, and Ann Murray in general.

i love that song. speaking of kenny loggins...i saw him naked once. i was on a nude beach in santa barbara and there he was with his guitar.

a former co-worker of mine said she would not trust me to babysit because she thought i would teach her kids bad words and et them watch Family Guy. it should be noted that i didn't volunteer to babysit, but she was probably right.

Yeeeessss. Sweeet. What's the point of grandfather-(and, in my case, aunt-)-tude if it's not subversive?

Music aside, Kenny - and Jeff Bridges and John Cleese - are wonderfully connected and involved in the community, so you REALLY get to spread those hippie values.

I got to do that with my girls..except my kids thought it was a great idea as they already grew up listening to it...so all 4 of the girls know all about little richard, fats domino, elvis, ricky nelson, the doors, janis, jimi,etc...i did good...

Go, grandpa! Subverting the kiddies with great music is what it's all about.:-)

You're a depraved individual my friend. And that's why I'm proud to call you 'friend'.

Childhood memories come a'floodin. Haven't thought of this song in years. Tugs at the ol heart strings I'm telling you.

And that mohawk sportin' fiddle player? Oh I do love me some musicians.

Hippie Music? WAS YOUR DAUGHTER RAISED BY WOLVES?

At 8:19 PM , Blogger Citymouse said...

naw.. not your daughter.. shell be like "dad, could you please teach the lil one all about music?"

At 9:11 PM , Blogger Lorraine said...

And for what it's worth, you're more than welcome to bring the little bit into the club and Auntie Raine and Uncle JP will do their part corruption-wise.

"Does wittle baby wanna hear some Divinyls? Maybe some U2? Oooh, baby liked U2. Smart, clever, cute baby".

I'll put strained carrots on the menu.

Perfect song to pass from grandfather to grandchild. And yeah, Kenny still looks good, but why is he mumbling all the words together?

Don't fall for Lorraine and her U2 propoganda. This baby will like hair metal. I'm certain.

In real life, the little guy is gonna get to listen to a pretty good mix of musical stylings.
My oldest son plays accoustic and electric guitar, and my daughter listens to a nice variety of music from Christian rock,to hip-hop.((shudder)).Yes..even some hair metal.*GASP!*..My job will be to make sure he gets to know the classics..you know..Like Buddy Holly..

And I bet for his birthday he will be receiving a drum set, maybe a mini-fender....?? yes i can see it all now...
sounds like you had a groovy weekend as well....mojo!

a great beginning for the little guy's formative years.

i'm guessin you're gonna crank it up a little as he grows older.

Sounds like a great plan Sling. I corrupted all my child relations with the The Grateful Dead, and The Allman Brothers. They all turned out extremely well btw, so tell your daughter "hippie" music is something to be encouraged, not avoided. :)

Wonderful, wonderful song.

As you know, I have fully indoctrinated my offspring in the tones of Joni Mitchell and CSNY.

Loggins & Messina are practically the soundtrack of my first marriage. The Ex is a terrific guitarist and singer, and sang that song all the time. Apparently, he sang it to his daughters (from wife #2) when they were growing up - so often that when one of them heard Kenny Loggins sing it, she looked at her dad incredulously, and said "Dad, he's singing your song!" She thought all along that he had written it just for them.

He was at a concert of Kenny's in Santa Barbara a couple of years back. Jim Messina was with him. His wife (#3) is 15 years younger than us. She hated the concert, was bored with the music, and when they all went to dinner with Kenny & Jim afterward, she was a real pill - bored and petulant. Ex-hubby loved every minute, sent the pouty wife home with friends and did some jamming with Kenny later that night. Said he couldn't help but think back..... wistfully. We were young, stupid kids who didn't have the good sense to realize we were perfect for each other, until it was too late. Ahhhh, memories.....

I had a Kenny Loggins CD of kids' songs that I played over an dover for y boy swhen they were younger. It included a version of House at Pooh Corner with an added verse about returning as a grown man and finding there is still work to be done. So sweet.

I think it's wonderful that this song has struck a familiar chord with so many of you!
Really...I'm thinkin' it's the kind of thing that fond memories are made of.
In the end,I guess that's what we are best left with.

YES!!...This marks the occasion of the first time I've had 30 comments on a post!..Of course,I had to manipulate the process somewhat...But still... :)

Let's go for 31. 'Cause when The Child was a baby, her favorite CD was a collection of lullabys by Mr. Loggins. Including "House at Pooh Corner". Just saying.

I'm with Rosemary...you made me cry too and I had gone a whole half a day without one tear...

Its like something "lost"

Can you imagine how we in the late 1960's early 1970's would have reacted if we though we would again live to see the shit of Iraq and all the other shit which the kids don'e even know is shit...if that makes sense to you...

Must be just getting old I guiess like Rosemary n you

At 5:42 AM , Blogger Sling said...

middle child-It makes perfect sense MC.
It does feel like we lost something. We had, what seemed to us,noble goals.I don't know how to put my finger on it exactly, but this isn't the world I had envisioned back then.

How wonderful. what a perfect choice. I have to say, having grandchildren is one of the most perfect joys you can ever have..I am fortunate enough to have 6..and recently I discovered that the oldest was "into" Led Zeppelin..which made me VERY proud. Apparently it's music that gets him going when he does his chores. I can relate!

House On Pooh Corner is a perfect introduction to Granpa, Poppy, Pops, Gramp's (or whatever young Jackson will call you) music...Wonderful!!

My own daughter fell asleep nightly to Caroe King's Tapestry album (yes, be it cd, tape or mp3, it's still an album or record to me)

There is so much to share with them..

nice blog!

leelee-I have wanted to be a Grampa since I was a little squirt.
My own grandfather played guitar, sang us kids western songs, and told the most wonderful stories. He was a by-god genuine cowboy!
This is easily, the best time of life.
Thanks for dropping in and commenting kid! :)

monica-You are a good sister!
My sister used to me hold her purse outside the dressing room at J.J Newberry's while she tried on every piece of clothing in the store..
