Beatles and Bluegrass

It's Friday Jukebox Video time boys and girls!..
Today we bring you something original...Well,..original in that it's my own interperatation of a classic Beatles' tune.
I like to say "interperatation",because I have never been able to play anything that sounds even remotely like the original.
This video only took about 12 takes...

..this is so not gonna happen again!..hope you enjoy.

M.Y. G.A.W.D......you are fabulous.....I was singing along!!

Sling, damnit....you cook, you ride a bike, you are handy around the house, you play the guitar wonderfully...and that finger, hand, arm, leg keeping time all at the same time.........ditto doralong's last comment.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS MY FRIEND!!!

No wonder you want a mandolin!! That was 1. great and 2. the most dancey version I've ever heard, which is also great.

You do good interpretation.

I also really want to say 'Beatles' but not like we know it. I like the Hungarian -um- interpretation. They pronounce every syllable and make an 'sh' sound for an s, so you have to work pretty damned hard to figure out what they're saying when they're saying: Bee-Ah-Tlesh. Unfortunately, once you've figured it out, it's pretty hard to go back.

Totally impressive. Does that mean no encore?

Awesome! Bravissimo! Encore! You are a very talented man my friend.

booda baby- A mandolin would be sweet!!..how do you tune it?..how many strings does it have?..I don't care.
I got to play with a violin once,..and a banjo...I love the Be-ah-tlesh!

jan- Thank you doll. :)
These things are hard for me to put together..all those buttons to press..

mom- ..another fan of Bluegrass I see!..
Thanx hon.

I'm not surprised at all by this, because I already knew you were god. Or at least, A god.

However, I beg to differ on the "not happening again" thing. Now that you've gone public with this brilliantosity, I really don't think you have any choice at all but to make it a weekly feature.

Yet another freakingly talented person who just casually wows me, in an "oh, and by the way, I play a little guitar" sort of way. Sheesh. If I could do that, there would be no end to the youtube videos I'd be posting.

And here I thought I was a golden god for making a yule log cake. Hmpf.

Rock on, Sling.

Sweet! Wow the talent I find in the blogosphere. How have I missed you, I am off to snoop through your previous posts. When I do peep around peoples websites I do feel like a snoop, but the things I find, like you playing, it is totally worth it.

Dude,..There is a huge difference between sittin' on the porch pickin',and trying to put this stuff on camera. The whole process just doesn't feel natural.Know what I mean?..anywhiz,..I will try to share some more sometime..sooner or later..eventually.

kimberly ann- I'm glad you enjoyed it kimberly!..and I totally think of you as a golden yule log cake goddess! :)

sageweb- Hi kid!..You are very welcome to snoop around the joint as much as you please..Lemme know if you find my propane tank..

billy pilgrim- I like that phrase,"renaissance man"!..Thanks buddy.
I'll be shootin' out an E soon.

Oh, wow. Nice. And what a cool thing to know about you.

Excellent! Reminds me of an album...the one with the armadillo on the cover. Not 'Tarkus'...the other one.

At 9:19 AM , Blogger Citymouse said...

you mentioned work is slow... well, As your new manager, I feel we start with a few more tunes on YouTube, some more covers / some orignials. Then, we will start the tour, pump up the air in those bike tires mr sling... were taking this on the road.

Lorraine, how big is your livingroom? I think your place will be the best start, then we can do the Blog Roll Tour!!!

We'll work out ther %$% later dude.

This is going to be great!!!

At 2:31 PM , Blogger Sling said...

CS- Oh thank you! :)

allan- seriously though..Leo's Armadillo album(What was the name of that?) changed my whole perspective on the guitar.
I somehow had it in my head that I should try to "copy" the original..That album literally set me free to explore....The end.

citymouse- I bet you'd make a hell of a real estate saleswoman! ;)..
I'm not so much interested in playing the guitar for money,as I am in using it to bring joy to others, and score babes.

Mouse, the Blog Roll Tour. Love. It. Bring it on. We'll get Sling over his whole "I just do it for the love" thing.

Oh Sling - I like you so much, that was wonderful! You do realize, don't you, that you are fast filling up my checklist. I am such a sucker for a guy who plays guitar. And one who cooks too? If you like big dogs, look good in hiking boots, and are a handyman too, well, that's pretty much stalking material right there, in my book, so you'd best keep that on the downlow, if you know what's good for you.

Seriously, that was delicious. I hit replay who knows how many times. Merry merry to you, Sling.

Rainey- I just don't know how I'll ever be able to top my performance with Bobby over at Here's The 80's..That was sweet!

more cowbell- Did I mention that I don't eat much, and I hardly make a mess??..and a Very Merry,Merry to you and yours Belle!

At 1:24 PM , Blogger yellowdoggranny said...

holy shit!....that was terrific....
brava....brava...(stomping feet, waving hands in the hair, whistling and cheering).....you rock..

At 7:12 PM , Blogger Allan said...

I know. It shows. That's a good thing.
It's called 'Leo Kottke- 6 and 12 String Guitar' - kinda understated, ya know?

From the liner notes:

"When I finished, he vomited- an astute comment on my playing. Made me feel very distinguished."

At 6:16 PM , Blogger Middle Child said...

What a treat. Thanks so much Sling. I always like your choice of music and now here you are playing better than most... but er...Sling there is a problem...you don't seem to have a head at all...so how do those hands know what to do?
And I love that little triumphant wiggle of the guitar at the end...after 12 takes you to get it spot on you deserve applause...so applause to you.
