Sunrise on Krypton..

California is on fire!..

From time to time, particularly during Summer,we experience a phenomenon here in the Golden State affectionately referred to as 'Dry Lightning'.
It's really quite impressive, what with the sunny skies, and bone jarring peals of thunder that suddenly erupt without warning.

Well, that's all well and good, but it turns out there is one unfortunate side effect to all of this primal display of power.
Here in the North State, our gorgeous sylvan neighborhoods are especially vulnerable to wildfires.

The pic below is not a dismally overcast day in Los Angeles...Oh no.
It's a photo of the sun, just as it began to rise over O-Town this very morn.

There are 27 fires burning in the immediate area, and the resultant smoke has permeated the atmosphere.
Odd as it may seem, that's the good news!
You see,the smoke is hovering still over the valley because there is very little wind to blow it away, and consequently,no wind to feed the fires.

Thus far, while there are several thousand acres ablaze, the firefighters have been able to stay ahead of the fires, and prevent any damage to homes in the area, and the people and animals that reside therein.

Now,as any one who came of age reading Action Comics in the 50's is well aware, there is yet another bonus to the 'Red Sun' effect..

..SUPERPOWERS!..

Yep,..I fully expect that once the yellow sun reappears,I'll be wondrously transformed, according to the natural laws of cosmic solar hue effects on nerdy superhero wannabees.

Hey!..Maybe I'll finally get that X-Ray vision I've dreamed about,since puberty!

Really weird picture coloring. We only have shades of grey here, none of the orange-brown embellishments.

The thunder Saturday was quite exciting though as was the 30 seconds of sprinkling.

You know Sling some of that California smoke is in my area, blows right over.

I cannot imagine how it is in the midst of it all, I know it can get pretty bad here. You know I can even smell smoke for the last few days.

As always....

Good thing you live in a non-smoking state so that your lungs can remain healthy. Sorry.

I want the power to take away all of Hat's powers and keep them for myself.

jan- Using the zoom feature on my camera did change the color of the sky somewhat, but the color of the sun was true.

danielle- The smell of smoke was pretty strong here, but not unbearable.
I work with a guy that was born and raised here, and he says he has never seen the smoke this bad.

mom- I eat whatever I want, and weigh the same as I did when I was 18..people hate it when I tell them that. ;)

Hat- I'm not convinced. :P

JP- Give Hat back her powers young man!
Sheesh,..you kids.

Yellerdawg- I'd go back to'57 and buy a brand new T-Bird with a porthole top to give my self on my 55th birthday!

lostinco- Oh,transport!..That would be totally cool!

Wow sorry about the fires...we will soon be in fire season too. The sunsets are so beautiful during the fires.

I would like my superpower to be, besides my bionic boobs, to be able to blow out the fires in one breath.

I hope you have a good umbrella. If not, I will buy you one. You just go pick it out. Avoid plaid.

27 fires, by my calculations - and there was plenty of time to do those as the fire season Sageweb mentioned above was very very long for us last year and a good deal of time was spent inside. Doing calculations.

You can imagine I forgot what I was calculating long ago. Something to do with ashes.

Oh yeah. Hide from those little bastards. Hide under an umbrella. I do not want your bi-focals to get dirty. Do you have little bifocal wipers?

wow that reminds me of a good day in Beijing - on a bad day even that orange ball was just a dull spot.

Those guys fighting those fires earn every damn cent they're paid. Let's hope they don't have too many more to fight this year.

From one bushfire place to another - these days scare the bejesus out of me. Right now its a crisp wintry day - the sun lies gently on the green and the air if a tad nippy - I love it - but I know what those days are like.

Hope all are okay an not too many lives lost
Our rural fire brigades have some really useful stuff as to how each homeowner and property owner can lessen if not prevent the firestorms burning their houses down - its stuff I didn't know and now I know I would stay with my house because I can prevent its burning by being there. The fire passes quickly - its the embers that get in gutters etc which set houses alight...its the houses with open windows and curtains...and who's owners don'e fill the gutters with water before hand etc etc lots of stuff you can do in the time ahead -

I would go if advised it was beyond saving but the houses which survive are often the ones where someone stayed and did not run at the last minute...
