Note to self:..

After several transparent attempts to play on the fears of the weak minded minions that make up the base of his supporters by intimating that Barack Obama is nothing less than a terrorist tool on a par with 'The Manchurian Candidate',John Mccain finally took heed of public opinion, including many high profile members of his own party, and made a couple of half-assed efforts to tone down the vigilante tenor of his campaign by engaging in some embarrassingly awkward back-pedaling.

This past Friday, when one misinformed supporter complained that she wouldn't vote for Obama because he was 'an Arab',Johnny snatched the mic from her hand, and proceeded to set her straight..

'No!..He's a decent man!'..

Way to go McMoron!..
Everyone knows the two are mutually exclusive,..right?
Putz!..Do us a favor, and stay off our side.

I was basking in the euphoria of my righteous indignation when it occurred to me that, just maybe,I'm guilty of a similar brand of prejudice myself.

I mean,I have been known to use the designation 'Republican' as an interchangeable epithet that I would normally reserve for Nazis, child molesters, and those incredible idiots that continue cruising for miles down the highway with their turn signal flashing.

If I'm going to presume to occupy the moral high ground,I should probably stop doing that..

The only thing that stops me from using the word "Republican" as a swear word is that my Dad is a Republican--and I kinda like him. :)

Oh, and so is half my family. I kinda like them, too. :)

Oh, Mr. Sling...I am so afraid for Mr. Obama..Our country is so full of hatred, and how did we get to this place? Even Mr. Ayers admits he was wrong, misguided, narcissistic. Do we ever forgive? We say we are a country of God Fearing people. If You believe in God, you must surely fear he is weeping..up in Heaven...because we, as a country forgive NO ONE..of their misdeeds. of their foibles, or for their misguided steps.
We should all be proud..we have..at last .. allowed a Black Person..to run for President. He has behaved admirably, despite the fact that some have treated him abominably..
Sarah Palin should be ashamed..her, a "Christain'? She gives new meaning to that word.
How far have we progressed? Not much, I fear.
I am a "lapsed, abandoned Catholic...yet I Pray, and I continue to TRY and love my neighbor...despite his hatred.

Miss HP- Exactly!..Besides,if it weren't for Republicans, the only political parties I'd be able to rant about would be the Independents,or those pesky Peace and Freedom guys.
What fun is that?

austexgrl- Yet another comment, that far exceeds the scope of my post dear friend!
I'd very much like you to start blogging again! :)

Big Yeller Dawg- Oh,I'm not going to let up on those self righteous mindfucks!..I'm not that forgiving.
..sorry about the Cowboys darlin'.

Something I've found to be true on more than one occasion.
Precisely why I'd like to read more of your thoughts..When I try to reach your blog,I get 'Profile not available'..
Have you blocked it?..or are you just not posting?..
The thought of making you feel uncomfortable is unacceptable.
I apologize for any miscommunication on my part. :)

Nazis and child molestors I can see as "Republicans", ...those idiots with their signals? Those are people who don't vote. Oblivious.

That woman you mentioned looked like a Crazy Cat Lady in the footage.

Why, that Dwight David Eisenhower...that was a fine Republican right there.

Oh, and did you hear that Christopher Buckley (William's son) endorsed Obama over the weekend?

As you know, whatever good opinion I had of McCain has diminished since he has stood by and allowed the hate speech to flourish at his and Palin's rallies. I was happy to see him try and step up, although it was too little too late...as witnessed by the fact that he was booed by his own crowd for standing up for Obama. You makes your bed, you lie in it, John.

Personally, and I say this with a heart full of love and little tweeting cartoon birds, I think the FBI should start taking names and numbers at some of those rallies...and maybe take in Palin and McCain for questioning. Inciting to violence is, last time I checked, still a crime.

Which is not to say that I missed your point because trust, I done been down that road myself lately.

i always get a little pissed when anyone including republicans are called nazis.

the nazis were a band of inhuman pricks in a league by themselves. likening any group to nazis minimizes the atrocities of nazis.

oops, i just fell off my soapbox.

These certainly are polarizing times. Gray has been wiped from our color spectrum. Everything has to be black or white now, doesn't it? I personally think gray makes things interesting, mkes you think.

Like all the Republicans putting pressure on McCain to stop inciting riots at his campaign stops. Who'd a thunk it??

Palin is supposed to be falling in line behind the new be nicer policy (spurred only by the backlash McCain's campaign has received, and not by any higher moral standard), but something tells me it ain't gonna happen. The hateful rhetoric spewing forth from the Republicans is absolutely shameful, and causes me to worry about the safety of the better candidate. Republicans also tend to drive under the speed limit in the left lane.

I am right there with you Sling...My blood boils a little when I even think of the R word. I do get a kick out of turn signals in the middle of the highway tho.

I was once a Republican. I am a product of wonderful, loving republican parents. They voted about ideas and ideology. They never once defamed a person for having different ideas. As I have grown I have moved far from their republican views, but I never once thought they were evil. One of my brothers is a republican, one is a democrat. We do have some lively discussions, but at the end of the evening we still love each other. I am now a left leaning democrat, but I find it hard to hate. I do hate the mud-slinging hatred I have been hearing from the McCain campaign.

polarizing times indeed. I'm tired of all the mud-slinging.

allan- It was painfully obvious that she was only repeating what racist factions of the right wing have been spreading around from the beginning.
Obama's father was from Kenya, his mother was a white woman from Kansas for chrissake, and the ditto heads tuned into Rush Limbaugh can't get past his name..

Rainey- You know, the K's are solid Republicans, and I'd be hard pressed to find any more endearing folks.

Bill Buckley's son endorsed Obama??..Why aren't we throwing that in the Republican's face?

Of the several outbursts that occurred during the rallys,I absolutely think that the guy who shouted 'Kill him!' should have been wrestled to ground by secret service agents, and carted off in handcuffs...It was like a friggin' Klan meeting!

billy P.- Climb back up on that soapbox buddy..You make an excellent point!

Thinker- Mccain figured that all the Republicans were behind him,and they were!..as far behind as they could distance themselves.

Tater- Hey Bro!..Nice to see you out and about. :)
I worry about Obama's safety as well.
There are just too many ignorant fools out there whose bigotry knows no bounds.
Like those guys that habitually drive under the speed limit in the fast lane.

Sage- The 'R' word won't be term of endearment for me anytime soon..just sayin'

mom- Honestly,it's examples like that, and a couple of recent posts of yours that got me to adjust my thinking a little bit.

lost- The whole mud slinging thing has never, ever impressed me,no matter which side was shoveling it.

Sigh.

Don't you hate when you have to walk the talk? Still, it's not that hard to do and it only takes a leeeetle bitty bit of restraint.

I guess a lot of we/us (whichever is the best grammar) Democrats/liberals and/or progressives have been struggling with the same issues of hypocrisy.

Unfortunately, I think that serves as the object lesson. We struggle; they see dominion in letting hoards of the arguably ignorant get riled up.

Fuck.

All last week, I finally found time to start doing my own blog again, but could I? No I could not and that's because I could barely get my rage damped down.

booda babe- It can be a real pain in the ass, this whole 'Put yer money where your mouth is,and try living up to your own standards' thing..Fortunately,I always have the 'cranky old bastard' thing to fall back on...

..and I would love to see you vent some of that seething anger on your blog! (hint)..

I admit I don't understand all of your issues re the election which seems to have been going on forever.... good luck for the US I hope that you don't have the same experience we have with our 'right' and 'left' leaders knowing that one is bad but the other is badder!~!!!HMMM!

McCain is such an idiot.

At 11:18 AM , Blogger Sling said...

middle child- Don't feel alone,I doubt there is anyone in this country that could rightfully claim to understand all the issues.
The best I can do is to look at where we were, and try to decipher how we got where we are.
In this case it's a no brainer.
GW and his ilk flushed us down the shitter!

citizen- ..and that's it in a nutshell.
