First things first..

Well,it's over, and we won!..(I use the term 'we' as a means of distinguishing them, from us),and it's time to get down to the business of,..business.

Healing the wounds endured by both sides of the aisle, reaching out to the other side, and building a bridge between our ideological philosophies.

In that respect, the second most important decision President-elect Obama has to make,(first being the appointment of the White House dog),is the selection of his Chief-of-Staff.

Everything I know about politics,I learned from watching 'West Wing',..so trust me when I tell you that the President's Chief-of-Staff is the designated hitter for the Oval Office.

So today, when I learned that Rahm Emanuel had accepted that position in the Obama administration,I lickity-split on over to Google, and did a little vetting of my own.
It's my job..

Turns out,the guy has a reputation for being doggedly ambitious, fiercely argumentative, and decidedly 'old school' when it comes to the subtle, and not so subtle machinations of politics..
A freakin' raptor, poised to swoop down, and gorge upon the bloody entrails of the freshly slaughtered Republican carcass!

..works for me.

Thank you for vetting him...I was doing a McCain and hoping someone else would do the vetting.

Vetting is such a wierd word..sounds like something that you do to your animals.

I read that the West Wing character Josh Lyman was inspired by Emanuel. Now we're talking!

Interesting... I've never watched West Wing.

Well, I wrote a big old comment and it went poof.....so I said:

I was sorry to admit that I had never heard of the "vetting process" except where kitties and doggies are concerned.

Then I said I thought Rahm was a super duper choice.

Then I said I was irritated with Joe Lieberman and I thought he was a turncoat smarmy jerk and I hoped they kicked him off the committee he heads. There.

Sage- No problem with the vetting.
I had some free time between 'Hardball' and 'Ellen'.

Thinker- Josh was a great character!
I can see the parallels.

Lost- I highly reccomend that you rent a season or 8 of the West Wing.
It's a sharply written,hugely entertaining civics lesson..You know,..Nerd stuff.

Rosie- 'Vetting' does refer to kitties and doggies too!
As near as I can figure,it's all about context.

austexgrl- Michelle has refered to herself as the 'Mom-in-Chief'..I don't think there's a guy on the planet that doesn't feel the weight of that authority!
..and your welcome for the picture.
It was my favorite among many.

Yellerdawg- If I had my 'druthers, there would have been a constitutional ammendment allowing Martin Sheen to serve a third term.

A guy named Rahm Emmanuel is perfect for a guy named Barak obama.
West Wing was one of favorite shows ever.

No time for all that vetting, but it will be interesting to see who Obama surrounds himself with. And what role Michele will take. I'm still hoping soemone will again take up the cause of universal health care.

mom- Sounds like the executive branch is really begining to represent our diversity.

Citizen- I understand that Rahm's father was a pediatrician, and his 2000 campaign included affordable health care for all Americans.
Michelle is active with Chicago University Hospitals...If these are any indications of their mindset.

Billy P.- That's because you are a truly enlightened individual!..
Still,I don't think this country is ready for a Romulan just yet.

OH, I LOVE that you took care of bidness!! I hear ... oh. Random Thinker already told you. That's just fun. Now we're all on the same page; we were one of those households that tried clinging, every Wednesday night, to the belief that we'd wake up Thursday and still have a Bartlett administration.

I'm not sure if we're over it yet.

Booda Babe- The Bartlett administration!..Boy,those were the days.
You can bet I'll be regaling my Grandchildren with tales of days gone by.

You know, I felt apprehensive when I first heard this, but the more I thought I about it, the more I think it was a smart choice, and the more I realize how sharp and forward thinking President-Elect Obama is. When he chose Joe Biden for Veep, I was upset, I didn't think it was a good choice, but the more I looked into it and watched things pan out, I realized damn, this man knew exactly what he was doing, and I saw the genius of the balance and the chemistry there. I think this choice too is a smart one, not just in the job that Mr. E. will do, but in the chemistry and balance that will result from him and Obama working together.

Of course, him ripping some Repub tail doesn't hurt either.

I think Rahm will probably be a good choice--at least I hope so!! :)

Cowbelle- I fully expect President Obama to make every effort to work in a bi-partisan way,and that's how it should be.
As for me,it will be a long time before I forget how the Republican's chose to wield ruthless power when they had the reins.
Their party is in a shambles today because of their own arrogance.

Miss HP- I believe he will do fine,as long as he remembers that he works for Barack Obama.
