Majority Rules..
When I was a kid,the very first thing I learned about the concept of Democracy was that simple phrase,..'Majority rules'.
It's instantly understandable to even the very young, and perfectly elegant in it's fundamental fairness.
'Those that choose 'A'..raise your hands'.
'Those that choose 'B'..raise your hands'...
You may or may not have been delighted with the final tally, but you took comfort in the fact that your views had been acknowledged, and whatever the outcome, the majority of the group would be duly served, and cries of 'No fair!' would be rightfully abandoned.
When you're young, the consequences of the end result are generally benign.
..'Either we all go to the movies,or we all go to the beach'..Like that.
The second thing we learned about Democracy was the practice of 'Drawing straws'.
Leave the final decision to the whims of chance..
The prospects here, while 'fair' in their basic execution, tend to exclude thoughtful considerations, and are pretty much always far less appealing.
'Which one of us is gonna go in the crazy lady's back yard, and retrieve our baseball?'..
I think it's safe to say that anyone over the age of ten years, recognizes that 'Drawing the short straw' universally sucks.
Well,..we're all grown up now,but those two Democratic processes still apply.
We can get out and vote tomorrow, and actively participate in deciding which direction our Democracy is headed,..or we can opt to just stay at home, consign our future to the apathetic finger of fate,..and draw straws.

I am voting..as often as they let me.
Just Kidding.
(just in case a republican swings by your blog)
I know you're gonna vote doll.Just like I'm certain every one that takes the time to stop by will vote as well.
I guess I'm just preaching to the choir in that respect.
Still, the best chance for the Republicans to win,is if Democrats become complacent in these final hours.
I just wanted to go on record as having said,'It ain't over,'till it's over'.. :)
And if we don't opt for either of these methods we may end up with the "Bully gets to Decide" and the biggest kid on the block will have us all doing his bidding for him.
I just knew that sageweb was going to comment that! What you said sling, it aint over until its over... Great post buddy!
We could let the Supreme Court decide for us!
bite your tongue allan.
we could do the one potato two potato, three potato...haha
tomorrow i will be taking mary and margaret to vote..for the first time in their respective lives...one is 55 one is 77...makes me proud..and they are voting for obama..how cool is that?
i've seen people on tv standing in line for hours to vote.
i don't know if i'd do that.
I was trying, without much success, to explain the electoral college to my kids this morning, and they wanted to know why we couldn't have a simple one person. one vote system. It would at least make sense. Still, in spite of the fact that I am in a strongly red state, I couldn't NOT vote.
Thinker- The Bully option is a lot easier to deal with.
Simply walk up behind him,and knock his ass out with a big stick..end of problem.
Lost- Sage is an enthusiastic voter indeed!..Thanks kid. :)
allan- ..I'd rather just flip a coin.
Yellerdawg- That's beyond cool!..You Rock!
Billy P.- Ruby could hold your place in line.
Citizen- I tend to agree with the one person, one vote thing.
..I live in a decidedly blue state.
Still, there are important propositions on our state ballot that are mostly non-partisan.
Specifically,prop. 8.
Bigotry knows no political party, and simply has to be put down!
Amen, brutha!!!! :)
I am so so so so so excited!!!!
:)
Sling.......in Texas we have early voting...I did it !....
I cannot understand, the hatred, the evil, that has been spewed forth in this election..Can we not pause, and love one another..?...Mr. Sling, we love you,
I will vote and hope everyone with an opinion votes too.
I'm trying to come up with a "duck, duck, goose" analogy. But it's not happening.
Miss HP- It's gonna be wondermous!..I just know it. :)
austexgrl- I'm lovin' all these votes that are in the bank already.
I'm pretty sure that if we get an administration that moves forward in hope, instead of playing on peoples fears, things can only get better.
mom- I really do too mom.
JP- I can't work out a Duck Duck Goose analogy either buddy..Hey!..How about Dodge Ball!..Remember how you'd be in the center, and every one kept hitting you with those huge red balls?..It's like that.
Voting has been compulsory in Australia for decades. Its strange for us to contemplate people deciding whether or not to vote...we are fined if we don't - so minorities don't have to get whipped up, the poor, the diabled etc vote as a matter of course...good luck tomorrow whatever god luck means to you all
middle child- I knew that about Australia.
American's take pride in their freedom to be lazy, and apathetic! ;)
Good luck for us will be to kick the Republicans to the curb.
It makes me really happy to see that this time people are showing up and doing their bit. It's worth a couple hours in line, if that's the case.
Plus, it's way harder to steal an election when there is high voter turn out. Just sayin'.
Rainey- I just got back from voting, and there was no line whatsoever!
Oh,plenty of people were there, but I'm telling ya there are at least 100 voting booths. We could choose to use either paper,or electronic ballots.
I chose paper, just to avoid any electronic skullduggery...
Sorry you missed the Temple tour, but I had NO idea what treasures lay within!
You just can't tell from the outside.
Pretty clever of those Chinese to hide their bounty from us uncivilized white folks behind a nondescript facade.
