I'm still mad at Helen Reddy..

Everything was going along just fine.
Dads went to work, made all the family decisions, and smoked pipes while watching the nine o'clock news..
Moms did the laundry, cleaned house in high-heels,and made pot roast for dinner.
Life was good for us men..There was order in the universe.

Then Helen Reddy recorded 'I am Woman',..and the very fabric of civilization was torn asunder!
All of a sudden,women started asserting themselves,demanding 'equal rights',and (GASP!)..having opinions!
Oh sure,..They stopped wearing bras as well, but that's little consolation for the inexorable decline of male dominance, that up until then had been our birthright.
Maybe allowing women to vote was our first mistake..I just don't know.

While I still harbor some resentment over this unforeseeable turn of events,I have to admit that Helen quickly became one of my favorite vocalists. She has a distinctive style, and a masterful range that I find irresistibly appealing.

Plus!..She's a redhead,.. so there it is.

Quite naturally,I won't be playing her signature theme song for this Friday's Jukebox Video,in deference to my Chauvinistic prerogatives,..but I do have a favorite that I think you'll enjoy!..

'Peaceful'

i've never trusted australians.

they always win too many olympic medals for the size of their population.

You men were lucky we didn't figure out earlier that we control everything that is important to you. Your reign could have been considerably shorter.

I remember an old episode of "Coach" where the women coaches said, "we are women, hear us roar." and Coach (whose name i forget) said: "we are men, hear us laugh."

I can't get that out of my mind.

Billy P.- Who knows what evil those Aussies are plotting, tucked away on that isolated continent of theirs?..They bear watching.

Thinker- I hadn't yet reached the age of majority when that whole Women's Lib conspiracy was launched!..I missed my chance to reign by this much..

Jan- She who laughs last..and all that ;)

I am feeling peaceful because I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman.

OK...at first I thought opinions was going to be orgasms....I don't wear a bra at home, but in public? I'd clear out a stadium really fast. I roar all the time and feel really strong when I do it....Steve calls that nagging....then I turn on a fan.

Somehow I think it all backfired on us...when we proved we could do everything, thats what many women ended up doing...everything... there are a lot of tired women out there with no time to sit and stare at the roses...
I like what Don said his dad taughte him, as to how to treat his mother/women...when he got out of the bath leaving a dirty ring around the sides, his dad took hijm back in there and said, "are you going to let your mother get down on her knees and clean your dirt aout of the bath?" so from then on he always cleaned up after himself which I benefited from...Fathers can teach sons to respect women that way but too many don't and too many mothers allow sons to be waited on...I think my own mum and don's mum were liberated because of the men they chose, not because of the times...

and I like Helen Reddy - a wonderful Australian... as some of us are!!!!

I'm so behind on reading, I should check my feetsies and see if I'm wearing heels. Nope.

That's a really pretty song. Except for the end because it sounds exactly like 1970's television theme songs.

You know there's a word that means 'specific to a particular age/time' - well, if you can think of that word, please use it. Somehow, I imagine music to be ageless.

That's my roar for the day.

Middle Child- I was wonderin' when my Aussie friends were gonna stop by and yell at me. ;)
All of us kids were brought up to pick up after ourselves, cook,do our own laundry, etc..
Any way,one more thing to Ms. Reddy's credit,..she convinced her good friend Olivia Newton-John to come to the U.S!

Booda Babe- you know you're right..It does have that circa 1970 feel to it.
In a Mary Tyler Moore sorta way.
Thankx for roarin' by kid!

1st off…*shocked and hurt face*…BILLY!
Although we are pretty bloody good at sports…must be all that sun and vegemite.

I remember catching the ferry over to Manly as a kid with my dad and hearing a song about Ruby Red Dress [I think] of hers plus Delta Dawn. I believe every Aussie knew those lyrics.
