Is it just me,..or did Farrah get screwed?
Of course,by now everyone is aware that Farrah Fawcett and Micheal Jackson both passed away on the same damm day!
I feel the loss of each,(as well as the loss of Ed McMahon a few days earlier),in the sense that they all had an impact on my generation, and as time goes by, I expect I'll be seeing more and more of my contemporaries moving on..as it were.
I'm struck this day by what I think is something of an unfair disparity in the coverage of this unusual development.
I mean,.. if Mike hadn't died within hours of Farrah,we'd be focused a lot more on her brave battle with a terminal disease,..not to mention the whole Ryan O'Neil 'Love Story' example of life imitating art,..which I find poetically poignant.
I don't know,..it just seems odd to me that the media attention is largely dedicated to the admittedly untimely death of Micheal Jackson.
I'm really not trying to take anything away from his remarkable career, but I'm guessin' it has a lot to do with all the controversy that surrounded the guy in the last few years.
I just can't help feeling that our priorities may be a tad skewed.
..And that's my two-cents worth.
Quite naturally, there will be a number of musical tributes to Mike out there in Bloggertown today.
This is as it should be..
I highly recommend stopping by my dear friend Rainey's house, and checking out her cool MJ memory!..
I don't want to give away too much, but it has Communists and everything!
In the meantime,I've chosen an old favorite I'd like to dedicate to Farrah, my pubescent..ummm..inspiration,..and pretty much every little boy's dream!
'Hey nahnie ding dong,..a lang-a lang-a lang'.
..That stuff's poetry right there!
'Sh-Boom'

agreeing with you on that one - her example should be up there front and centre. A brave woman on so many fronts but it don't sell papers so....
I opted to go the Farrah route today as well... she was prettier, and plus, she died first.
Your musical choices never fail to surprise, amuse, and stimulate me.
Michael was a worldwide phenomoenon. Sadly this will translate into a media frenzy over his death and his funeral. Reminds me a little bit of what is was like when Elvis died.
I heard that after making more money than God, MJ was in debt more than 6 million. But now he will once again in death make more money than God.
I have no point here. I just like to think about money.
Willym- For all I know,Farrah's loved ones are relieved that the focus is being moved away from her,so that they might grieve in some measure of privacy.
Still,..Farrah herself was public with her plight, and I think she deserved a little more time to generate some dialogue on the subject of cancer.
Maybe it's because my own mom died of cancer..I just don't know.
JP- Heh,heh..You said 'stimulate'.
Thinker- It really is like when Elvis died, and I can understand that.
Mostly,I put these thoughts down as a way to compartmentalize my historical perspective on things.
..Know what I'm sayin'?
Jan- Oh..This is gonna be the biggest scramble for assets since Howard Hughes cashed in his chips!
I predict at least a decade before the dust settles.
I live with the radio on ...I love talkback and music...but today i finally turned it off...might be crass but if i hear another rendition of Michael jackson singing "ben"...arrrgh...wasn't that long agop everyone was slinging off at him...now they will fill the media with feel good stories...
I am so pleased that Farah agreed to marry Ryan near the end...
I wish it all touched me more...must be becoming a hermit.
Sh-boom, Sling have I told you lately that I love you. You always say just the thing I'm thinking. I think we are soul mates.
I do admire Farrah's openess about her cancer, but other than that I can't feel to much about either one.
farrah had an excellent moral compass whereas michael's moral compass started pointing south quite some time ago.
Middle Child- I love that song 'Ben'!..sorry..
Yeah,..they were the love of each other's lives.
Mom- Sh-boom!.. :)
Secret Agent Woman- I hear you..People die every day without all the fuss.
Billy P.- Plus!..Farrah was a lot more pleasant to look at naked.
Haven’t these celebrities got any respect for their fans…the least they could do was space out their bloody deaths.
I’d be more inclined to watch the Farrah “tribute” shows than the MJ ones on the tele. Thankfully Farrah [to my knowledge never put out a record…hm not even a Christmas one?] so at least we’ll be spared that on the radio.
May one RIP.
totally, sling. i finally watched Farrah's story last night. she died fighting and with dignity surrounded by love. MJ...died the way he lived...to excess, alone and sad. While MJ's music was never a moving force for me and Farrah was a lot of hair that I envied.....you stated the what is important very well indeed......and with a flip of my frizzy hair i am off to shop til i drop.
i agree...but considering that farrah died of anal cancer saying she got scrwed on the death thing...might have been the wrong expession to use..
snort*
yeah yeah, he was a great intertainer, singer, dancer, composer...who was a fucking pedophile...sorry...if i see one more tribute to him or one more song by him, i might go redneck and punch someone
sigh*
The thing is Sling I also like this song....it has a plaintive quality...but what our radio stations did was to play non stop all his very early stuff as if they hadn't been bagging him not so long ago...it just made me sick to hear the talkback people fawning over him, in the hope most of us wouldn't recall how they dissed all over him in the past. Not the song that worried me just the hypocrisy.
Apos- I think they should have kept Michael on ice for at least a few days..Out of courtesy.
Yellerdawg- My bad..I only heard that the cancer had gotten intop her liver,or I might have used a different colloquialism. ;)
Middle Child- I know that hon..And I agree that it's a little hypocritical to lionize him out the gate.
That video deeelighted me. I love the one on the end, just missing the sh-boom groove and still, because they're having fun and got the forgiveness thing, the show goes on.
RIP, Farrah, Michael, and Ed!
Booooda Babe- When I went looking for this tune,I found two versions.
One had a slideshow of the guys that performed it,(the Crew Cuts),and this one..I liked this one better.
Miss HP- Amen..And may peace be with us all. :)
I really loved Farrah..and honestly until the last few days..never thought I listened to MJ too much..but he has a lot of great songs. Poor Ed McMahan.
