Goodbye,Old Friend...

Hello new friend!

For five years,my faithful old HP laptop served me well.
Lord knows,..it endured a dozen catastrophic system failures,as well as whatever abnormal wear and tear I chose to inflict on it,(like drowning it in beer twice!),and still,..it soldiered on.

Technology has soldiered on as well,so I determined it was high time I upgraded my computron, and invest in a newer,faster,sleeker,..younger model!
Thanks to a HUGE discount through Lizzard King's DirecTV Department of Perks,I received my flashy new HP lapper via UPS just yesterday!
..More than twice the hard drive space, and six times the RAM as Old Faithful,as well as a buttload of bells and whistles I'm still exploring.

..Like the way cool effects I can get on the built-in web cam!..

I was fond of Windows XP,and resisted Vista as long as I could,..but now that Windows 7 is out I figured it was time to jump in with both feet.
I find the best way to learn a new operating system,is to just click on everything in sight in an attempt to discover 'What's this button for?'..

No doubt,I'll be in Techno-Weenie heaven for the next several days..

I always have a love-hate thing when I do that. Love the new one, but hate to see the faithful friend go.

I did finally toss out my circa 80's typewriter. The new technology seems to be working out well.

If you forget to tell us what to put on your gravestone, I'm voting for this.

Science Marches ON! Did you check for a Best Before Date on the new one - I always find its two days after I bought it.

Many happy days of playing with the new toy.

congrats on the new toy.

i'd be careful with the webcam, i think the police secretly fund all web cams and we all know how honest the police are.

I hate having to figure out new techno-gizmos. I am thankful that people like you and my own in-house IT guy like pushing all the buttons until it works. Have fun with the new toy.

New computers are fun, if annoying at times. My laptop is dead and I'm delaying sinking money into a new one.

Sage- Those bubbles were the deal maker!

Jan- Change can be difficult.
I'm seriously considering getting rid of my transistor radio.

Booda Babe- HA!..I've always said I wanted Christa McAuliffe's last words on my tombstone.

Willym- Oh,..I'll probably crash it a few times before the warranty runs out.

Yellerdawg- My old laptop was over 5 years old..That's 112 in computer years!..I paid more than twice as much for it then, than I did for my new one, which has twice the capabilty..Know what I'm sayin'?
The internal fan hasn't worked for a few years, and the 'power on' button tended to get bitchy at times.
I formatted the hard drive, performed a clean install of Windows XP,and sold it as-is for $100.00.

Billy P.- I already considered that.
The web cam has a score of 'disguises' you can use to hide your identity..No shit.

Mom- I love pressin' those buttons!
..always have.
I've had it two days, and am on my eighth pot of coffee.
Maybe I'll sleep tonight.

Secret Agent Woman- My biggest concern was whether or not Windows 7 would run my favorite software.
Photoshop..Office..Like that.
They are older versions, and I really don't have the money to replace them.
So far, every one is running fat and happy!

So, Steve got a new desktop and I still have my old laptop. I get the blue screen of death about 4 times a week and everyone says....don't worry about it. It acts up, turns off and freezes a zillion times a day....but....as Stevie says....rosemary, it's only 5 years old. I am so damn jealous I am about to have a seizure.

There was a commercial this morning on TV....for some kind of laptop....they were showing it in red. I said to Steve..."Sling got a new laptop and his old one was 5 too. I want a new red laptop." No answer.

Random Thinker- Oh..You ain't seen nothin' yet.
I got all kinds of new tricks up my sleeve!

Rosie- Seriously, tell Steve you can get twice the laptop, for what your 5 year old cost back then..It's really amazing.

Oh, I'm jealous. My laptop died, and then the temporary one my husband dusted off for me died, too. Now I have to use his, and sometimes there's nothing more annoying that dealing with someone else's set up.

I want one of those tablet notebooks that you can write on. I'd feel so CSI if I had one.
